6、ezing andthawing. Surface changes, viewed at 53 magnification, areexamined for signs of deleterious effects, such as cracking,crazing, checking, blistering, peeling, delamination, or erosion.5. Significance and Use5.1 Resistance to freezing and thawing is a factor whendetermining the durability of E

7、IFS, an EIFS with water-resistive barrier coatings, and water-resistive barrier coatingsby itself.6. Apparatus6.1 Compressor, Freezing Chamber, and CirculatorOfsuch design and capacity that the temperature of the air in thefreezing chamber shall not exceed 9C (16F) one hour afterintroducing the maxi

8、mum charge of units. The initial tempera-ture will not exceed 32C (90F).6.2 Trays and ContainersWill be shallow, metal, and havean inside depth of 38.1 6 12.7 mm (112 612 in.) and be ofsuitable strength and size so that the tray with a charge offrozen units can be removed from the freezing chamber b

9、y oneperson.6.3 Thawing TankShould permit complete submersion ofthe specimens in their trays.Adequate means shall be providedso that the water in the tank may be kept at a temperature of 246 5.5 C (75 6 10F).6.4 Drying RoomMaintained at a temperature of 24 68C (75 615F), with a relative humidity bet

10、ween 30 and 70percent. The drying room should be free from drafts.7. Test Specimens7.1 Water-Resistive Barrier Coatings7.1.1 Prepare a minimum of five test specimens measuringa minimum of 150 mm2(6 in.2) for each substrate that will beevaluated.7.1.2 For sheathing substrates, two sheathing sections

11、shallbe assembled with a 3.2-mm (18-in.) joint. The joint shall betreated as it would in its end-use configuration.7.1.3 Apply the water-resistive barrier coating over thesubstrate surface in accordance with the manufacturers in-structions. The specimen shall be representative of those usedin actual

12、 construction.Allow the water-resistive barrier coatingto dry a minimum of 24 hours.7.1.4 The back and sides of the test specimens shall besealed with an impervious material that need not be thecoating.7.2 EIFS Testing7.2.1 Prepare a minimum of five test specimens measuringa minimum of 150 mm2(6 in.

13、2) and consisting of the followingmaterials:7.2.1.1 Substrate,7.2.1.2 Water-resistive barrier coating (if applicable),7.2.1.3 Insulation board,7.2.1.4 Reinforcing mesh, and1This test method is under the jurisdiction of ASTM Committee E06 onPerformance of Buildings and is the direct responsibility of

16、istive barrier coatingover the substrate surface in accordance with the manufactur-ers instructions. The specimen shall be representative of thoseused in actual construction.7.2.3 Secure the insulation board to the substrate or water-resistive barrier coating (where applicable). Apply the basecoat a

17、nd reinforcing mesh to the surface of the insulation boardincluding the edges. Allow the base coat to cure a minimum of24 hours.7.2.4 The back and sides of the test specimens shall besealed with an impervious material that need not be thewater-resistive barrier coating.8. Conditioning8.1 Allow the t

18、est specimens to cure a minimum of 28 daysat room temperature of 22 6 3C (72 6 5F) and 50 6 5%relative humidity.9. ProcedureNOTE 1There are two test methods,Aand B, that have different cycletimes and durations. The manufacturer should specify which test(s) to run.9.1 Method A (60 Cycles)9.1.1 Visual

19、ly observe the test specimens for cracks ordamage. Discard any damaged samples and replace them withsamples prepared and cured in accordance with Sections 7 and8.9.1.2 Submerge the test specimens (finished side down) inthe water of the thawing tank. Water temperature shall be 24 65.5C (75 6 10F).9.1

20、.3 Place a restraining bar across the test specimens toensure the samples remain at a depth of 5 mm (0.20 in).9.1.4 Remove the test specimens from the thawing tank andstand them in the freezing trays.Aspace of at least 12.7 mm (12in.) shall separate the test specimens as placed in the trays.Place th

21、e trays and their contents in the freezing chamber for20 6 1 hours.9.1.5 Remove the trays from the freezing chamber after 206 1 hours and submerge the test specimens in the water-thawing tank as shown in 9.1.2 and 9.1.3 for 4 612 hours.9.1.6 Freeze the test specimens using the procedure de-scribed i

22、n 9.1.4 for one cycle each day of the normal workweek. Following the 4 612 hour-thawing after the lastfreeze-thaw cycle, remove the test specimens from the traysand store them for 44 6 1 hours in the drying room. Do notstack or pile units. Provide a space of at least 25.4 mm (1 in.)between all test

23、specimens. Following this period of air drying,inspect the specimens, submerge them in the thawing tank for4 612 hours, and again subject them to a normal week offreezing and thawing cycles in accordance with 9.1.2 and 9.1.5.NOTE 2If a laboratory has personnel available for testing 7 days aweek, the

24、 requirement for storing the test specimens for 44 6 1 hours inthe drying room following the 4 612 hour-thawing after the last freezingcycle of the week may be waived. The test specimens may then besubjected to this method of freezing and thawing for 60 consecutive days.9.1.7 Continue to subject the

25、 test specimens to Method A(60 cycles) of freezing and thawing.9.1.8 After completion of Method A, examine the testspecimens for deleterious effects. If deleterious effects occurprior to the completion of Method A, stop the test and recordthe number of cycles completed.9.2 Method B (10 Cycles)9.2.1

26、Visually observe the test specimens for cracks ordamage. Discard any damaged samples and replace them withsamples prepared and cured in accordance with Sections 7 and8.9.2.2 Air dry the test specimens at a temperature of 49C(120F) for a minimum of 8 hours.9.2.3 Submerge the test specimens (finished

27、side down) inthe thawing tank. Water temperature shall be 24 6 5.5C (75 610F).9.2.4 Place a restraining bar across the test specimens toensure the samples remain a depth of 5 mm (0.20 in.).9.2.5 Remove the test specimens from the thawing tank andstand them in the freezing trays.Aspace of at least 12

28、.7 mm (12in.) shall separate the test specimens as placed in the trays.Place the trays and their contents in the freezing chamber for16 h. Temperature of the freezer shall be maintained at 28.9C(20F).9.2.6 Continue to subject the test specimens to Method B. Ifdeleterious effects occur prior the comp

29、letion of Method B,stop the test and record the number of cycles completed.9.2.7 After completion of Method B, view the test speci-mens for surface changes, under 53 magnification, for delete-rious effects such as cracking, checking, crazing, erosion, andso forth.10. Calculation or Interpretation of

30、 Results10.1 Deleterious effects are defined as surface changes, asviewed by a minimum 53 magnification, such as checking,cracking, crazing, erosion, or other characteristics that mayeffect performance as a wall cladding. May also includedelamination, or indications of delamination between compo-nen
