3、nd thawing of exterior insulation and finishsystems (EIFS), an EIFS with water-resistive barrier coatings,and water-resistive barrier coatings by itself.1.2 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as thestandard. The values given in parentheses are for informationpurposes only.1.3 This stan

Terminology3.1 For definitions and terms relating to this standard, seeTerminologies E 631 and E2110.4. Summary of Test Method4.1 Specimens are subjected to cycles of fre
6、ezing andthawing. Surface changes, viewed at 53 magnification, areexamined for signs of deleterious effects, such as cracking,crazing, checking, blistering, peeling, delamination, or erosion.5. Significance and Use5.1 Resistance to freezing and thawing is a factor whendetermining the durability of E
7、IFS, an EIFS with water-resistive barrier coatings, and water-resistive barrier coatingsby itself.6. Apparatus6.1 Compressor, Freezing Chamber, and CirculatorOfsuch design and capacity that the temperature of the air in thefreezing chamber shall not exceed 9C (16F) one hour afterintroducing the maxi
8、mum charge of units. The initial tempera-ture will not exceed 32C (90F).6.2 Trays and ContainersWill be shallow, metal, and havean inside depth of 38.1 6 12.7 mm (112 612 in.) and be ofsuitable strength and size so that the tray with a charge offrozen units can be removed from the freezing chamber b
9、y oneperson.6.3 Thawing TankShould permit complete submersion ofthe specimens in their trays.Adequate means shall be providedso that the water in the tank may be kept at a temperature of 246 5.5 C (75 6 10F).6.4 Drying RoomMaintained at a temperature of 24 68C (75 615F), with a relative humidity bet
10、ween 30 and 70percent. The drying room should be free from drafts.7. Test Specimens7.1 Water-Resistive Barrier Coatings7.1.1 Prepare a minimum of five test specimens measuringa minimum of 150 mm2(6 in.2) for each substrate that will beevaluated.7.1.2 For sheathing substrates, two sheathing sections
11、shallbe assembled with a 3.2-mm (18-in.) joint. The joint shall betreated as it would in its end-use configuration.7.1.3 Apply the water-resistive barrier coating over thesubstrate surface in accordance with the manufacturers in-structions. The specimen shall be representative of those usedin actual
12、 construction.Allow the water-resistive barrier coatingto dry a minimum of 24 hours.7.1.4 The back and sides of the test specimens shall besealed with an impervious material that need not be thecoating.7.2 EIFS Testing7.2.1 Prepare a minimum of five test specimens measuringa minimum of 150 mm2(6 in.
13、2) and consisting of the followingmaterials:7.2.1.1 Substrate,7.2.1.2 Water-resistive barrier coating (if applicable),7.2.1.3 Insulation board,7.2.1.4 Reinforcing mesh, and1This test method is under the jurisdiction of ASTM Committee E06 onPerformance of Buildings and is the direct responsibility of

16、istive barrier coatingover the substrate surface in accordance with the manufactur-ers instructions. The specimen shall be representative of thoseused in actual construction.7.2.3 Secure the insulation board to the substrate or water-resistive barrier coating (where applicable). Apply the basecoat a
17、nd reinforcing mesh to the surface of the insulation boardincluding the edges. Allow the base coat to cure a minimum of24 hours.7.2.4 The back and sides of the test specimens shall besealed with an impervious material that need not be thewater-resistive barrier coating.8. Conditioning8.1 Allow the t
18、est specimens to cure a minimum of 28 daysat room temperature of 22 6 3C (72 6 5F) and 50 6 5%relative humidity.9. ProcedureNOTE 1There are two test methods,Aand B, that have different cycletimes and durations. The manufacturer should specify which test(s) to run.9.1 Method A (60 Cycles)9.1.1 Visual
