3、 specification covers two-part paste adhesives forbonding foam core sandwich panels. The adhesive may be usedfor new production or depot maintenance. The adhesive shouldbe suitable for forming bonds that can withstand long termexposure to temperatures from 55 to 71C (67 to 160F)and also withstand co
4、mbinations of stress, temperature, andhumidity expected to be encountered in service. The adhesivesshall be used for bonding aluminum alloy facing to foam core,inserts, edge attachments, and other components of a foamcored sandwich panel.1.2 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as thesta
5、ndard where only SI units are given or where SI units aregiven first followed by English units; where English units aregiven first followed by SI units, the English units are to beregarded as the standard.1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns, if any, associated wit

10、respecimens, will deliver the required properties.4. Requirements4.1 MaterialThe adhesive shall be a two-part thermoset-ting epoxy paste containing no asbestos, and when tested usingthe test methods described in Section 6, shall meet therequirements of Section 4. The adhesive shall not have adetrime
11、ntal effect on the components being bonded over therange of temperatures at which the adhesive will be used.4.2 Working Characteristics:4.2.1 ApplicationThe adhesive shall be suitable for appli-cation to facings and foam core materials. The adhesive shallbe suitable for spray application to faying s
12、urfaces.4.2.2 CuringThe time, temperature, and pressure used tocure the adhesive shall be within the range specified herein.4.2.2.1 Curing Time and TemperatureThe adhesive, whenmixed in accordance with the manufacturers instruction, shallmeet the requirements of this specification when cured at atem
13、perature of not less than 52C (125F) for 4 h, or 63C(145F) for 60 min. The timing of the cure shall start when thepanel skins have reached the specified temperature. Thetemperature for the cure shall be fully attained within 2 h afterthe first application of the adhesive to the faying surface.4.2.2.

17、shall elapse between the application of the adhesive tothe faying surface and the application of the pressure.4.2.3 Mix RatioThe mix ratio for the two parts of theadhesive shall be as defined by the manufacturer.4.3 Storage LifeThe storage life shall not exceed one yearfrom the date of manufacture,
18、when the components of theadhesive shall be stored at a temperature between 10C (50F)and 42C (90F). The storage life of the two parts of theadhesive, from the date of shipment, when stored in airtightcontainers at 23 6 3C (73.4 6 5.4F), shall be at least 12months.
