3、dure for the reduction of grosssamples of pelleted carbon black to the appropriate size fortesting and the preparation of the sample for testing. Thesetechniques are intended to minimize variations in measuredcharacteristics between test samples. Standard terminologyrelating to carbon black samples

Summary of Test Methods3.1 Test Method AReduction of Sample Size:3.1.1 The gross bulk sample is poured through the rifflesample splitter. A portion of the sample is reintroduced into thesplitter as many times as necessary to reduce t
11、he gross sampleto the size desired for the intended test portion. The test portionmay not be homogeneous.3.2 Test Method BBlending of Carbon Black:3.2.1 The gross sample is poured through the riffle samplesplitter a minimum of four times in a specific sequence toprepare a homogeneous test portion. Significance and Use4.1 Several test methods for carbon black require thereduction in sample size or the blending of the test sample t
17、oreduce the variation of the measured characteristic. Otherfactors being equal, larger samples will tend to be morerepresentative of the total supply. This practice providesprocedures for reducing the large sample obtained from the bagand bulk sampling practices to a convenient size for conductinga
18、number of tests to describe the material and measure itsquality in such a manner that the smaller portion is most likelyto be a representation of the bulk sample. Failure to follow theprocedures in this practice could result in providing a nonrep-resentative sample to be used in subsequent testing.
19、Individualtest methods provide for minimum amounts of material to betested.4.2 Test Method A, Reduction of Sample Size, is typicallyused to obtain an aliquot from a large sample, splitting a blackinto two or more equal portions, or reducing a blended blackfrom Test Method B to a specified sample siz
