3、cope*1.1 This classification system covers requirements for plasticized cellulose acetate butyrate thermoplastic compounds suitablefor injection molding and extrusion. These compounds have a butyryl content less than 38 % and an acetyl content less than 15 %and can contain dyes and pigments. This cl

4、assification system does not include special materials compounded for specialapplications. Cellulosic plastic materials, being thermoplastic, are reprocessable and recyclable. This classification system allowsfor the use of those cellulosic materials, provided that all specific requirements of this

5、classification system are met.1.2 The properties included in this classification system are those required to identify the compositions covered. Otherrequirements necessary to identify particular characteristics important to specialized applications are specified by using the suffixesas given in Sec

6、tion 5.1.3 This classification system and subsequent line call out (specification) are intended to provide a means of calling out plasticmaterials used in the fabrication of end items or parts. It is not intended for the selection of materials. Material selection can bemade by those having expertise

7、 in the plastic field only after careful consideration of the design and performance required of thepart, environment to which it will be exposed, fabrication process to be employed, costs involved, and inherent properties of thematerial other than those covered by this classification system.1.4 The

Classification4.1 This classification system covers the following groups, classes, and grades (see Table CAB):4.1.1 Group 01High impact s

Suffixes5.1 When requirements are needed that are not covered in Table CAB they shall be in

21、dicated through the use of suffixes.5.2 A list of suffixes can be found in Classification System D4000 (Table 3) and can be used for additional requirements asappropriate. Additional suffixes will be added to that classification system as test methods and requirements are developed andrequested.5.3

Materials and Manufacture6.1 Materials supplied in these forms shall be as uniform in composition and size, and as free of contamination as can beachieved by good manufacturing practice.6.2 If these materials contain colorants in the nominal amounts ordinarily employe

28、d, such additives shall not alter the abilityof the materials to meet the specified properties.6.3 The color of material supplied shall be comparable, within commercial match tolerances, to the color of standard samplesprepared by the manufacturer.7. Physical Requirements7.1 Test specimens of the ma

29、terial shall conform to the requirements prescribed in Table CAB.7.2 Molded specimens, for those tests requiring them, shall be prepared in accordance with Section 10.7.3 Conformance to the requirements of this classification system shall be determined in accordance with Section 11.8. Sampling8.1 Sa

30、mpling shall be statistically adequate to satisfy the requirements of 12.4.8.2 A batch or lot shall be constituted as a unit of manufacture as prepared for shipment and can consist of a blend of two ormore “production runs.”9. Number of Tests9.1 Routine testing of each batch or lot shall be limited

31、to properties designated in Table CAB of this classification system.9.2 One set of samples for those tests that are designated (Section 12) shall be considered sufficient for testing the batch or lot.The average results from those samples shall comply with the requirements prescribed in this classif

32、ication system.10. Specimen Preparation10.1 Physical property requirements in Table CAB are based on injection-molded specimens 3.2 mm thick. Specimensmachined from compression-molded blanks or extruded strips can be used, provided it can be shown that the results arecomparable.10.2 Prior to molding

33、 cellulose acetate butyrate, dry the material to a moisture content of 0.2 % or less. The primary reason fordrying the material is to eliminate visual defects such as surface imperfections and bubbles. Material spread in a tray to a maximumdepth of 50 mm and exposed in a circulating-air oven at 75 t

34、o 90C for 3 h is recommended. Formulations containing either verylow or very high levels of plasticizer can require slightly higher or lower drying temperatures respectively. Control the injectionmolding cycles in accordance with Practice D3641, using a material temperature of 25 to 35C above the “c

35、old point.” (The “coldpoint” is the lowest material temperature at which it is possible to obtain a full shot when all other operating variables are heldconstant within the normal operating range.) Mold temperatures between 35 and 60C have been found desirable. As a rule,thin-section moldings and hi

36、gher hardness materials (lower plasticizer content) require higher mold temperatures.10.3 Test specimens injection molded from cellulosic materials are subject to “overpacking” if the gate size is too large, andthis can result in brittleness in the gate area as well as throughout the entire specimen

37、. A gate size 1.5 mm square has been foundto produce satisfactory test specimens.11. Inspection and Certification12.1 Inspection and certi

44、fication of the material supplied with reference to a specification based on this classification systemshall be for conformance to the requirements specified herein.12.2 Lot-acceptance inspection shall be the basis on which acceptance or rejection of the lot is made. The lot-acceptanceinspection sha

45、ll consist of plasticizer content determination (see Table CAB, Footnote 1) and color as specified in 6.3.12.3 Periodic check inspection with reference to a specification based on this classification system shall consist of the tests forall requirements of the material under the specification. Inspe

46、ction frequency shall be adequate to ensure that the material iscertifiable in accordance with 12.4.12.4 Certification shall be that the material was manufactured by a process in statistical control, sampled, tested, and inspectedin accordance with this classification system and that the average val

47、ues for the lot meet the requirements of the classificationsystem (line call out).12.5 Areport of test results shall be furnished when requested. The report shall consist of results of the lot acceptance inspectionfor the shipment, the results of the most recent periodic-check inspection, and the pe
