3、pplications.1.2 This specification is expressed in both inch-pound unitsand in SI units; however, unless the purchase order or contractspecifies the applicable M designation (SI units), the inch-pound units shall apply. The values stated in either inch-poundunits or SI units are to be regarded separ
4、ately as standard.Within the text, the SI units are shown in brackets. The valuesstated in each system may not be exact equivalents; therefore,each system shall be used independently of the other. Ordering Information3.1 In addition to the ordering information required bySpecification A 788, the purchaser shall include a sketch orwritten description of the f
7、orging with the inquiry and order.4. General Requirements4.1 Materials supplied to this specification shall conform tothe requirements of Specification A 788, which outlines addi-tional ordering information, manufacturing requirements, test-ing and retesting methods and procedures, marking, certific
8、a-tion, product analysis variations and additional supplementaryrequirements.4.2 If the requirements of this specification are in conflictwith the requirements of Specification A 788, the requirementsof this specification shall prevail.5. Manufacture5.1 Melting ProcessAll melting processes of Specif
9、ica-tion A 788 are permitted unless Supplementary RequirementS1 is invoked by the purchaser.5.2 Forging ProcessEither the closed impression die orthe open die forging processes may be utilized unless thepurchaser specifies one or the other.5.2.1 Forging TemperatureThe maximum part tempera-ture durin
10、g forging shall be 2150F 1175C.5.3 Heat TreatmentHeat treating all forgings is requiredin accordance with Table 1 to develop the required mechanicalproperties.5.3.1 Number of Heat TreatmentsTwo complete heattreatments, consisting of an austenitize, quench, and temper,are permitted. Purchaser approva
11、l is required prior to anyadditional heat treatments.5.3.2 Temperature VariationHeat treating temperaturesshall be controlled in the range of 625F 614C.5.4 Stress ReliefWhen heat treatment for mechanicalproperties is followed by straightening, a stress-relieving heattreatment is required at a temper
12、ature meeting the requirementsof Table 1.5.4.1 Quenching after Stress ReliefWater or oil quenchingof stress-relieved forgings is prohibited.6. Chemical Composition6.1 The steel shall conform to the requirements for chemicalcomposition prescribed in Table 2.1This specification is under the jurisdicti

Mechanical Properties7.1 Tension, Impact, and Hardness TestsAll testing shallbe performed after heat treatment and stress relief, as appli-cable. The test specimens shall meet the
16、requirements of Table3.7.1.1 Number of TestsA minimum of two forgings fromeach lot shall be randomly selected for longitudinal tensile,impact, and hardness testing. Hardness values of the tensiontest specimen shall be reported with the tensile data.7.1.1.1 Lot SizeA lot shall consist of all forgings
