3、e Department of Defense.1. Scope1.1 This specification covers low-carbon precipitationstrengthened nickel - copper - chromium - molybdenum -columbium alloy steel plates for general applications. Thealloys in this specification are strengthened by precipitation invarious temperature ranges. Precipita
4、tion strengthening canoccur upon air cooling after hot rolling, during normalizing,and by another heat treatment. These grades are not intendedfor use in applications above 900F 540C.1.2 Two grades, each with three classes, are provided asfollows:Grade and Class ConditionGrade A, Class 1 as-rolled a
5、nd precipitation heat treatedGrade A, Class 2 normalized and precipitation heat treatedGrade A, Class 3 quenched and precipitation heat treatedGrade B, Class 1 as-rolledGrade B, Class 2 normalizedGrade B, Class 3 normalized and precipitation heat treated1.3 Grade A provides minimum yield strength le
6、vels rang-ing from 50 to 85 ksi 345 to 585 MPa, depending onthickness and condition.1.4 Grade A, Class 1, plates are limited to a maximumthickness of34 in. 20 mm. The maximum thickness of GradeA, Classes 2 and 3, is limited only by the capacity of thecomposition to meet the specified mechanical prop
7、erty require-ments; however, current practice normally limits the maximumthickness to 8 in. 200 mm.1.5 Mandatory notch toughness requirements are specifiedfor Grade A, Class 1.1.6 Grade B provides minimum yield strength levels rang-ing from 70 to 75 ksi 480 to 515 MPa, depending onthickness and cond
8、ition.1.7 Grade B plates are limited to a maximum thickness of 2in. 50 mm.1.8 Mandatory notch toughness requirements are specifiedfor the three classes of Grade B.1.9 When the steel is to be welded, it is presupposed that awelding procedure suitable for the grade of steel and intendeduse or service
9、will be utilized. See Appendix X3 of Specifica-tion A6/A6M for information on weldability.1.10 The values stated in either inch-pound units or SI unitsare to be regarded separately as standard. Within the text, theSI units are shown in brackets. The values stated in eachsystem are not exact equivale
10、nts; therefore, each system mustbe used independently of the other. Combining values from thetwo systems may result in nonconformance with the specifi-cation.2. 16、ral Requirements for Delivery4.1 Material furnished under this specification shall con-form to the requirements of the current edition of SpecificationA6/A6M, for the ordered material, unless a conflict exists inwhich case this specification shall prevail.5. Materials and Manufacture5.1 The steel sh
17、all be made to fine grain practice.6. Heat Treatment6.1 Grade A, Class 1 material shall be precipitation heattreated in the temperature range from 1000 to 1300F 540 to705C for a time to be determined by the material manufac-turer.6.2 Grade A, Class 2 material shall be normalized at atemperature in t
18、he range from 1600 to 1700F 870 to 925Cand then precipitation heat treated at a temperature in the rangefrom 1000 to 1300F 540 to 705C for a time to bedetermined by the material manufacturer.6.3 Grade A, Class 3 material shall be quenched in water oroil from a temperature in the range from 1600 to 1
19、700F 870to 925C and then precipitation heat treated at a temperaturein the range from 1000 to 1300F 540 to 705C for a time tobe determined by the material manufacturer.6.4 Grade B, Class 1 shall be hot-rolled.6.5 Grade B, Class 2 shall be normalized after hot rolling byreheating to 1600 to 1700F 870
20、 to 925C, and then cooled instill air.6.6 Grade B, Class 3, shall be normalized at 1600 to 1700F870 to 925C, and then precipitation heat treated at 1000 to1300F 540 to 705C for a time to be determined by thematerial manufacturer. 21、m.6.7 If the purchaser elects to perform the thermal (heat)treatment, the material shall be accepted on the basis of milltests from test coupons heat treated in accordance with thepurchase order requirements. If the test coupon heat treatmentrequirements are not indicated on the purchase order, them
22、anufacturer shall heat treat the test coupons under conditionshe considers appropriate. The manufacturer shall inform thepurchaser of the procedure followed in thermally treating thetest coupons at the mill.7. Chemical Composition7.1 The heat analysis shall conform to the requirements asto chemical
23、composition prescribed in Table 1.7.2 The steel shall conform on product analysis to therequirements prescribed in Table 1, subject to the productanalysis tolerance in Specification A6/A6M for alloy steels.8. Tension Test8.1 The material, as represented by the test specimens, shallconform to the req
