10、ade fibre ropes 1 Scope 1.1 This specification covers 3-strand hawser (plain)-laid and 8-strand plaited (cross-laid) ropes made from polyamide, polyester, and polyethylene continuous filament fibres, and polypropylene mono-filaments or film tapes. NOTE a) The standards referred to in the specificati
11、on are listed in appendix A. b) Requirements that must be specified by the purchaser are listed in appendix B. c) Notes on the inspection and care of the ropes are given in appendix C. d) Calculations of the safe working load of a rope must be based on not more than one-sixth of its breaking strengt
12、h. 2 Definitions 2.1 For the purposes of this specification the definitions given in SANS 10004 and the following definitions shall apply: angle of lay the angle at which the strands lie in relation to the axis of the rope (see figure 1) defective a rope, a test sample, a test specimen, or a set of
13、test specimens whose average property has been determined, that fails in one or more respects to comply with the relevant requirements of the specification kink an abrupt bend or loop in a rope length of lay see figure 2 lot not more than 200 coils of rope of the same identification code and, when r
14、elevant, length of lay, made by one manufacturer, and submitted at any one time for inspection and testing polyamide synthetic linear macromolecules having in the chain recurring amide linkages at least 85 % of which are joined to aliphatic or cycloaliphatic groups SANS 943:2008 Edition 2.3 4 polyes

19、pe Figure 5 S-Lay Figure 6 Z-Lay 3 Requirements 3.1 Fibre The fibre used for the manufacture of a rope shall be one of the following, shall be new and free from defects, and shall, when tested in accordance with 6.4.2, be true to type: a) polyamide; b) polyester; SANS 943:2008 Edition 2.3 6 c) polye
20、thylene; d) polypropylene. 3.2 General The yarns from which a rope is constructed shall be made from continuous filament fibres in the cases of polyamide-and-polyester ropes and from monofilament or film tapes in the cases of polyethylene and polypropylene ropes. The strands of the rope shall be wel
21、l formed and free from grooves and sunken yarns, and all strands in a rope shall contain the same number of yarns. Each rope shall be well laid and free from defects. The rope in each coil shall be continuous throughout its length and there shall be no loose ends, splices, or joins in the rope or in
22、 any of its strands. The linear density and breaking strength of a rope determined in accordance with 6.5 and 6.7 shall, subject to the relevant tolerances laid down in SANS 977, comply with the requirements specified in tables 1-6 (as applicable), appropriate to the nominal diameter in the identifi
23、cation code specified by the purchaser. 3.3 Identification 3.3.1 Identification code A rope shall be identified by the appropriate code letters for its construction and composition given in (a) and (b) below, followed by the numerical value of its nominal diameter in millimetres. a) Construction cod
