13、ed to Inside back coverBS673:1984 BSI 12-1999 iii National foreword This British Standard, which has been prepared under the direction of the Mechanical Engineering Standards Committee, was first published in 1936 and subsequently revised in 1950 and 1973. This third revision is identical with ISO11
14、80:1983 including Addendum 1 published in 1985, “Shanks for pneumatic tools and fitting dimensions of chuck bushings” which was prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 29, Small tools, of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and in the development of which the United Kingdom playe
15、d an active part. As compared with the 1973 edition, in which due account was taken of the related ISO recommendations, R 1180 and R 1571 “Shanks for pneumatic tools and fitting dimensions of chuck bushings”, Parts I and II, it should be noted that ISO 1180:1983 replaces both of these recommendation
16、s of which it constitutes a technical revision. Terminology and conventions. The text of the International Standard has been approved as suitable for publication as a British Standard without deviation. Some terminology and certain conventions are not identical with those used in British Standards;
17、attention is drawn especially to the following. The comma has been used as a decimal marker for metric dimensions. In British Standards it is current practice to use a full point on the baseline as the decimal marker. Wherever the words “International Standard” appear, referring to this standard, th
18、ey should be read as “British Standard”. Cross references The Technical Committee has reviewed the provisions of ISO296:1974 and ISO723:1974, to which reference is made in the text, and has decided that they are acceptable for use in conjunction with this standard. A related British Standard to ISO2
19、96:1974 is BS 1660:1972 “Machine tapers, reduction sleeves and extension sockets.” A British Standard does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of a contract. Users of British Standards are responsible for their correct application. Compliance with a British Standard does not of itsel

21、cated in the amendment table on the inside front cover.iv blankBS673:1984 BSI 12-1999 1 1 Scope and field of application This International Standard relates to shanks for pneumatic tools and corresponding chuck bushings and deals with the following types: coal pick shanks; chisel shanks; rivet snap
22、shanks, parallel; rivet snap shanks, tapered; breaker and spade shanks; concrete breaker shanks; rock drill shanks. The types relate to the machine for which they are mainly designed, but this does not prevent the use of the shanks for other applications. Other types of tools will be dealt with in f
23、urther International Standards when the corresponding studies are completed. Pneumatic hammers and their chuck bushings are not covered by this International Standard but those features of chuck bushings (dimensions and tolerances) which ensure interchangeability are specified. For each tool mention
24、ed above, this International Standard provides tables giving dimensions in millimetres.
