Significance and Use2.1 This guide has been developed to aid naval architects,ship designers, material and equipment suppliers, buyers, shipowners and operators, and government agencies by providingpertinent information in one document that can be used duringvarious s

4、tages of commercial shipbuilding. These stages in-clude design, planning, purchasing, material fabricating, as-sembling, testing, quality assurance, and inspection.2.2 This guide does not specify the use of a particularstandard usage nor does it detail what the standard covers.2.3 There may be more

5、than one standard listed for aparticular product, test, or specific application. However, thisguide does not compare the different standards or specifywhich particular standard should be used.2.4 A partial list of sources for obtaining various standardsis included below. Other sources may be located

6、 by contactingvarious information centers such as those at ASTM, theNational Institute for Standards and Technology (Codes Stan-dards and Information), and the American National StandardsInstitute. Information is also available through various sites onthe Internet World Wide Web (for example, http:/

When ordering, organizations shouldconsider obtaining the latest copies of standards as completesets or portions of sets in whatever media are appropriate (forexample, hard copy, CD-ROM, or microform) since purchas-ing, quality assurance, and engineering departments are fre-quently looking fo
