1、U. S. AIR FORCE SPECIFICATION BULLETIN 10 Januhry 1968 SUPERSEDING USAF SPEC BUL 534 23 January 1964 CXJIDE FOR THE USE OF COATING SPECIFICATIONS IN AERONAUTICAL AND MISSILE EQUIPMENT 1. Scope and purpose. This bulletin provides a list of coating specifications intended for the control of corrosion
2、on Air Force aeronautical and missile equipment. The list includes preferred specifications, descriptive information, limitations, and general properties of the coating materials. 1.1 Contractors finish specification. A specification covering the protective finishfor application to the weapon system
3、s hardware shall be developed by the contractor and submitted for approval to the Air Force procuring activity in accordance with the individual contract. Unless otherwise specified the documents listed herein and MIL-F-7179 type II shall be the basis for preparing the finish specification. 1.2 Mter
4、ials and processes. The use of materials and processes not covered by specifications referenced in this bulletin will be subject to the approval of the Air Force procuring activity. Coating and process specifications not listed herein should be submitted by the contractor for evaluation and approval
5、. Materials will be subject at any time to such tests of the applicable specification as the Govern- ment inspector may require to assure conformance thereto. Proposed deviations, should be accompanied by sufficient explanation, including test data as required, to permit an engineering evaluation. 2
6、. Recommended coatinq materials and processes specifications. Be- cause of the peculiar mission or production techniques of each indi- vidual weapons system, this bulletin does not list all the necessary specification coatings; it specifies the recommended coating systems for general use and many ty
7、pical applications. General temperature limitations of each coating are given in parentheses. complete system considerations allow wide variance in these general limitations. Conditions and 2.1 Metal pretreatment coatinqs 2.1.1 MIL-M-3171 Magnesium Alloy, Processes For Pretreatment and Prevention of
8、 Corrosion On. This is a process specification covering a number of pretreatments for magnesium alloy passivation. This specification covers chemical conversion coatings for aluminum alloys. applied by brush, spray, or dip and are applicable when a-substitute for anodic co
10、atings is necessary. (3000 - 3500F) These coatings may be 2.1;3 MIL-C-8514 Coating Compound, Metal Pretreatment, Resin-Acid. The coating covered by this specification is commonly known as wash primer. clean bare metal or, in the case of magnesium, to pretreated surfaces. It is often used over chemic
11、al films and anodized aluminum surfaces and is an added insurance toward good adhesion of topcoat systems. (375O - 400F) It will perform satisfactorily when applied directly to 2.1.4 MIL-A-8625 Anodic Coatings , For Aluminum and Aluminum Alloys. This specification covers chromic and sulfuric acid an

Sulfuric acid anodic coatings with a dichromate seal is preferred; however, for alloys containing less than 7 percent alloying constituents, chromic acid anodic coatings will give satisfactory result s. 2.1.5 MIL-M-45202 Maqnesium Alloys, Anodic Treatment Of. This is a process s
13、pecification covering anodic pretreatments for magnesium alloys. 2.2 Primer coatings 2.2.1 MIL-P-7962 Primer Coating, Cellulose, Nitrate Modified Alkyd Type, Corrosion Inhibitinq, Fast-Drying (For Spray Application Over Pretreatment Coatings). cation is specifically intended for the acrylic-nitrocel
