15、STANDARD (FIBER JACK CONNECTOR) 1 INTRODUCTION 1.1 Scope FOCIS 6 presents the intermateability standard for connectors with the commercial designation FIBER JACK, and is issued as an addendum to TIA/EIA 604, Fiber Optic Connector Intermateability Standard. The provisions of TIA/EIA 604 apply to this

16、 document. 1.2 Objective The requirements in FOCIS 6 have been selected with the objective of ensuring that any combination of plugs and sockets conforming to the requirements of FOCIS 6 will mechanically intermate, and that intermated connector assemblies will meet their common level of performance

17、. Intermateability standards define the minimum physical attributes of mating connector components. Fully dimensioned components are not within the scope or intent of FOCIS 6. The common level of performance of an intermated connector assembly is the least demanding set of performance requirements i

18、n the separate performance specifications of each of the products in the assembly; see TIA/EIA 604. The following factors, however, shall be considered in the application of common performance: 1. Common performance does not account for intrinsic loss between the fibers; see TIA/EIA 604, section 6.

19、2. The common level of performance of connector plugs that have been tuned shall be based on their untuned performance; see TIA/EIA 604, section 7. There are also limitations based on the options that are available: 1. Ferrule Diameter - Both the plug and the socket in a connector assembly shall hav

20、e the same ferrule diameter option. 2. Keying - The keying arrangement for the plugs in a connector assembly shall be compatible with the keying arrangement for the socket. 3. Contact Angle - Both plugs and sockets in a connector assembly shall have the same contact angle. Copyright Telecommunicatio

22、on level of performance is not achieved should be resolved through the cooperation of the user and the respective component manufacturer(s). 1.3 Drawing practices To be in compliance with ANSI and ISO Engineering Drawing Practices, the following shall apply: 1. Where a tolerance of form is not speci

23、fied, the limits of the dimensions for a feature control the form as well as the size. The combined effects of size and form variations may not exceed the envelope of perfect form at the maximum material condition (MMC). 2. Where interrelated features of size (features shown with a common axis or ce

24、nter plane) have no geometric tolerance of location or run out specified, the limits of the dimensions for a feature control the location tolerance as well as the size. When interrelated features are at the MMC they shall be perfectly located to each other as indicated by the drawing. 3. Where perpe

25、ndicular features (features shown at right angles) have no geometric tolerance of orientation or run out specified, the limits of the dimensions for a feature control the orientation tolerance as well as the size. When perpendicular features are at the MMC they shall be perfectly oriented to each ot

26、her as indicated by the drawing. 4. As the size of a feature departs from the MMC, variations in form, location and orientation are permissible. 28、g configuration t ferrule diameter a angle of contact 2.2 Socket requirements FOCIS 6 sockets shall meet the requirements of this section. 2.2.1 Socket interface dimensions The dimensional requirements for FOCIS 6 sockets are defined in Figures 2.2.1a, 2.2.1b, and 2.2.1c - Socket Interface. 2.2.2 Sl

29、eeve The fibers may be aligned in either a sleeve or a bore. The sleeve may either be solid or split (resilient), and the sleeve may be either fixed or floating within the socket. The inside diameter of the sleeve or bore of the socket is determined by the ferrule diameter option of the socket. Tabl

32、from the sleeve. The force required to remove a gage pin from the sleeve in a FOCIS 6 socket shall not exceed 5.89 Newton (600 gmf). The procedures of FOTP-158 shall be used to measure the withdrawal force. The gage pin diameter will be a minimum 2.4985 mm and a maximum 2.4995 mm for split (resilien

33、t) sleeves. The gage pin diameter will be 2.5000 to 2.5005 for solid sleeves. B) The maximum inside diameter of the sleeve is in effect limited by the common level of performance that the socket is to achieve. C) Plastic Optical Fiber (POF) standards have been proposed for development by the TIA. 2.

34、2.3 Number of fibers option Only a dual fiber socket, n=2, has been defined for FOCIS 6. 2.2.4 Socket mounting option The only mounting option specified is m=0. The mounting features for this option are undefined. 2.2.5 Socket keying option Only a single keying option for FOCIS 6 sockets has been de

35、fined, k=1. 2.2.6 Ferrule option diameter If ferrules are used to secure the fibers in the socket to the optical reference plane, see Table 2 in section 3.2.3 for ferrule option diameters. When the fiber alignment mechanism of the socket is a split sleeve, ferrules shall be used. 2.2.7 Angle of cont

36、act option The contact angle is the angle between the plane of contact between mating fibers and a plane perpendicular to the optical axis of the socket. a=0, designates an angle of 0 The only angle of contact option for FOCIS 6 sockets is a=0. 2.2.8 Fiber position and end geometry The fiber end sur

37、faces in the socket shall be fixed at the optical reference plane as shown in Figures 2.2.1a, 2.2.1b and 2.2.1c. When split sleeves are used for alignment, socket fibers shall be terminated in ferrules as illustrated in Figures 2.2.1a and 2.2.1c. When split sleeves are not used, the fibers may be te

38、rminated in ferrules or other elements of the socket. The fiber and surrounding area may be flat or radiused (convex). POF The fiber endface is flat within .010 mm and perpendicular to the fiber a

The fiber may project beyond the surrounding area of the supporting structure. 2.2.9 Socket Tuning It is not required that the sockets be tuned; if, however, a socket is tuned, the orientation of the eccentricity of the core is to be located as shown in figure 2.2.9. 41、e socket is the preferential angular positioning of the ferrule relative to the key of the socket. 43、diameter a is the angle of contact 3.2 Plug requirements FOCIS 6 plugs shall meet the requirements of this section. 3.2.1 Plug interface option There is one plug interface option for FOCIS 6 plugs. The requirement for this interface is: d=1 The elements of the plug that control the interface with th

44、e socket, for plugs offered under this option, must meet the dimensional requirements of figure 3.2.1. 3.2.2 Ferrule extension and contact force The travel of the ferrule, relative to the body of the plug, and the spring force of the ferrule are defined in Figure 3.2.2. 3.2.3 Ferrule diameter option

45、 The ferrule diameter option defines the diameter of the ferrule in the plug for each type of fiber terminated in the plug. Ferrule diameter options for FOCIS 6 plugs are specified in Table 2.
