Scope1.1 This specification covers requirements for low-carbonage-hardening nickel-copper-chromi
3、um-molybdenum-columbium alloy steel forgings for pressure vessel compo-nents.1.2 Forgings under this specification are available as GradesA or B. Grade A may be ordered in one or two classes asfollows:1.2.1 Grade A Class 1Normalized-and-precipitation-heat-treated, providing a minimum yield strength
4、of 55 ksi 380MPa and a minimum tensile strength of 65 ksi 450 MPa.1.2.2 Grade A Class 2Quenched-and-precipitation-heat-treated, providing a minimum yield strength of 65 ksi 450MPa and a minimum tensile strength of 75 ksi MPa.1.2.3 Grade A was the original steel composition in thisspecification.1.3 A
5、lthough the material is readily weldable, weldingprocedures are of fundamental importance and must be such asnot to affect adversely the properties of the material, especiallyin the heat-affected zone. It is presupposed that weldingprocedures will be suitable for the material being welded.1.4 Supple
6、mentary requirements, including those applicablein Specification A 788/A 788M, are provided for use whenadditional testing or inspection is desired. These shall applyonly when specified individually by the purchaser in the order.1.5 The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound unitsare to be r
7、egarded separately as standard. The values stated ineach system may not be exact equivalents; therefore, eachsystem shall be used independently of the other. Combiningvalues from the two systems may result in non-conformancewith the standard.1.6 This specification is expressed in both inch-pound and
8、SI units. However, unless the order specifies the applicable“M” specification designation SI units, the material shall befurnished to inch-pound units.2. Ordering Information and General Requirements3.1 In addition to the ordering information required bySpecification A 788/A 788M, the purchaser shall include wit
11、hthe inquiry and order a detailed drawing, sketch, or writtendescription of the forging and the method of selecting testlocation (see 6.3). When appropriate, the areas of significantloading in the forging shall be designated.3.2 Material supplied to this specification shall conform tothe requirement

Manufacture4.1 Melting PracticeThe steel shall be made to a killed,fine austenitic grain size, practice.4.1.1 Vacuum degassing in accordance with SpecificationA 788/A 788M is highly recommended.4.2 Heat Treatment:4.2.1 Normalizing may, at the manufacturers option, pre-cede the prescribe
17、d heat treatment cycle.4.2.2 Grade A Class 1 forgings shall be normalized at atemperature in the range from 1600 to 1725F 870 to 940Cand then precipitation hardened in the range from 1000 to1225F 540 to 665C for a time to be determined by thematerial manufacturer.4.2.3 Grade A Class 2 forgings shall
18、 be liquid quenchedfrom a temperature in the range from 1600 to 1725F 870 to940C and then precipitation hardened in the range from 1000to 1225F 540 to 665C for a time to be determined by thematerial manufacturer.4.2.4 Grade B forgings shall be double quenched andtempered (liquid quenched twice) by a
19、ustenitizing twice at atemperature in the range of 1600 to 1725F 870 to 940C, andthen precipitation hardened at a temperature in the range of1000 to 1300F 540 to 700C for a time to be determined bythe manufacturer.5. Chemical Composition5.1 Heat AnalysisThe heat analysis obtained from sam-pling in a
20、ccordance with Specification A 788/A 788M shallcomply with Table 1.5.2 Product AnalysisThe purchaser may use the productanalysis provision of Specification A 788/A 788M to obtain aproduct analysis from a forging representing each heat ormultiple heat.6. Mechanical Requirements Mechanical Requirement
21、s6.1 Tensile RequirementsThe forgings, as represented bythe tension test specimens, shall conform to the requirementsof Table 2. The largest obtainable tension test specimen asspecified in Test Methods and Definitions A 370 shall be used.6.2 Notch Toughness Requirements:6.2.1 For Grade A, Class 1 or
22、 2 forgings, unless Supple-mentary Requirement S6 is specified, the Charpy impact testresults shall conform to the requirements of Table 3. One set ofthree specimens shall be removed from each specimen locationas specified in 6.3. The supplier may select a test temperaturecolder than that specified
23、in the order, but in any case, theactual test temperature shall be reported with the test results.6.2.2 For Grade B forgings two sets of Charpy impactspecimens shall be removed from each test specimen locationas specified in 6.3 and shall conform to the requirements ofTable 3.6.2.3 Full-size, 10 by
24、10 mm, Charpy V-notch specimensshall be used unless the material thickness or configurationmakes it impossible to obtain full-size specimens. If the use ofsub-size specimens is necessary, the largest standard sub-sizespecimen it is possible to obtain shall be used.6.2.4 The acceptance values for sub
