It is the intention that this American National Standard be a standalone document, replacing the use of IEC 60974-8 in the U.S. As such, any reference in this standard to an IEC 60974 part is understood to mean a reference to the equivalent ANSI/IEC 60974 part, where it exist

ANSI/IEC 60974-8-2008 - 7 - Evaluation and testing of components for correct application in the equipment shall be carried out in one of the following ways: a) Where a component has been certified by a recognized testing authority for compliance with a relevant ANSI component s

40、tandard, that component shall be checked for correct application in accordance with its rating. The component shall be tested in accordance with this part of ANSI/IEC 60974 with the exception of those tests that are part of the relevant ANSI component standard. b) Where a component has been certifie

41、d by a recognized testing authority for compliance with a relevant ANSI component standard, but is not being used in accordance with its specified ratings, that component shall be tested in accordance with this part of IEC 60974. c) Where a component has not been certified by a recognized testing au

42、thority for compliance with a relevant ANSI component standard, that component shall be checked for correct application in the equipment by testing the component in accordance with this part of ANSI/IEC 60974 or in accordance with the applicable tests of the relevant ANSI component standard. NOTE 2

43、The applicable test for compliance with a component standard is typically carried out separately. The number of test samples is typically the same as that required in the component standard. d) Where a component has not been certified by a recognized testing authority for compliance with a relevant

44、ANSI component standard because no such standard exists, that component shall be tested in accordance with this part of ANSI/IEC 60974. e) Where a component has been certified by a recognized testing authority for compliance to a non-ANSI standard, that component shall be deemed acceptable for use i

45、n the equipment provided that the applicable safety requirements of the non-ANSI standard are at least as high as those of a relevant ANSI standard. The component shall be tested in accordance with this part of ANSI/IEC 60974 with the exception of those tests that are part of the non-ANSI component

48、 leak in the enclosure. Conformity shall be checked by completing the following test: a) Place the energized equipment, i.e., the external gas console or the power source with internal gas console, in a bag (or similar); b) Simulate a gas leak inside the equipment to create an internal explosive atm

49、osphere; c) Monitor the mixture until it is halfway between the LEL and the UEL of the gas; ANSI/IEC 60974-8-2008 - 8 - d) Operate the gas console for a period of at least 1 h, during which all components capable of causing ignition are cycled at least 100 times; e) Verify that no ignition occurred during the operating period; f) Ignite the bag (or similar) to confirm that a flammable mixture was present. 10.3.4.2 Integrity of the enclosure The enclosure, i.e., the external gas console or the power source with internal gas console, shall withstand an explosion
