The standards developed within IEEE represent a consensus of the broad expertise on thesubject within the Institute as well as those activities outside of IEEE that have expressed an inter-est in participating in the development of the standard.Use of an IEE

6、E Standard is wholly voluntary. The existence of an IEEE Standard does not implythat there are no other ways to produce, test, measure, purchase, market, or provide other goods andservices related to the scope of the IEEE Standard. Furthermore, the viewpoint expressed at thetime a standard is approv

7、ed and issued is subject to change brought about through developments inthe state of the art and comments received from users of the standard. Every IEEE Standard is sub-jected to review at least every five years for revision or reaffirmation. When a document is morethan five years old and has not b

8、een reaffirmed, it is reasonable to conclude that its contents,although still of some value, do not wholly reflect the present state of the art. Users are cautioned tocheck to determine that they have the latest edition of any IEEE Standard.Comments for revision of IEEE Standards are welcome from an

9、y interested party, regardless ofmembership affiliation with IEEE. Suggestions for changes in documents should be in the form of aproposed change of text, together with appropriate supporting comments.Interpretations: Occasionally questions may arise regarding the meaning of portions of standards as

10、they relate to specific applications. When the need for interpretations is brought to the attention ofIEEE, the Institute will initiate action to prepare appropriate responses. Since IEEE Standards rep-resent a consensus of all concerned interests, it is important to ensure that any interpretation h

11、asalso received the concurrence of a balance of interests. For this reason, IEEE and the members of itssocieties and Standards Coordinating Committees are not able to provide an instant response tointerpretation requests except in those cases where the matter has previously received formalconsiderat

Introduction(This introduction is not part of IEEE Std 45-1998, IEEE Recommended Practice for Installations on Shipboard.)IEEE Std 45-1998, IEEE Recommended Practice for Electric Installations on Shipboard, constitutes thechief undertaking of the Marine Transportation Commit

17、tee of the IEEE Industry Applications Society.Due to the differences among the requirements of the various classification societies and the insurance com-panies regarding electric installations on shipboard, and the lack of any accepted standard engineering prac-tice for marine installations, the AI

18、EE1in 1913 appointed the Marine Committee (now called MarineTransportation Committee) to take up the preparation of standard marine rules. The first edition was pre-pared covering two important divisions; namely, fire protection requirements and marine constructionrequirements. They were adopted by

19、the American Bureau of Shipping and published as Section 37 of theirRules for the building and classing of vessels. As the first edition of the rules did not cover the entire field ofuse of electricity on shipboard, the Marine Committee of the Institute was continued. The recommendationswere conside

20、rably amplified in the editions issued in 1920, 1927, 1930, 1938, 1940, 1945, 1948, 1951, 1955,1958, 1962, 1967, 1971, 1977, and 1983.This edition has been completely rewritten. It includes many significant additions, changes, and deletions toreflect North American and International marine electrica

21、l engineering technology and the latest systemdesign, installation, and test practices necessary to ensure safe and reliable operation.The following persons were on the Marine Transportation Committee and balloted to approve this documentfor submission to the IEEE Standards Board:When the IEEE-SA St
