This specification covers the requirements for chin straps. ; 1.2 Classification. classes as specified (see 6.2): The chin straps shall be of the following types and Type I - Woven Gold Lace (Latex Impreg

REQUIREMENTS 3.1 Guide samples. When furnished, are solely for guidance and information to the contractor (see 6.3). in the sa

The gold lace used for the

16、type I chin strap shall contain two vellums and shall conform to type II, classes 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 as specified, (see 6.2), style A, of MIL-L-17507, except that colorfastness to salt water and soap and dry/wet heat shall not apply. 19、ne finish on the grain side to produce a smooth polished surface (see 4.4.1). The finished leather shall be not Jess than 3 ounces nor greater than 4 ounces when tested as specified in 4.4.1. The patent leather used for the type IV chin * 3.3.4 Plastic sh-eeting (non-rigid). The plastic sheeting use

20、d for the type V chin strap, shall be of a non-rigid properly plasticized vinyl pigmented black approximating shade no 27038 of FED-STD-595, and shall show no stiffening, cracking, flaking, or tackiness when tested as specified in 4.4.1. The plastic sheeting shall be press-polished on one side, and

21、shall be 0.020 (k 0.002) inch in thickness when tested as specified in 4.4.1. 3.3.5 Latex imp-remated paperboard. The latex impregnated paperboard used ?or the backing on types 1 and V chin straps, shall consist of a high alpha cellulose vegetable fiber impregnated with a minimum of 26 percent neopr

The paperboard shall be natural or black in color, and shall have a thickness of 0.035 (4- 0.005) inches and a weight of 1.0 lb/sq. yd. when tested as specified in-4.4.1. 3.3.6 Thread,- cotton. The thread used for the type I chin strap shall be cotton, conforming to type IC2; 3 ply; ticket numb

23、er 00; of V-T-276. The thread shall be dyed to match gold TX, cable no. 66087. 3.3.6.1 Colorfastness. The dyed thread shall show colorfastness to light, wet-dry cleaning, and perspiration equal to or better than the standard sample when tested as specified in V-T-276. sample is available, the dyed t

The eyelets used for type I chin strap shall be made of brass, with an inside diameter of not less than 1/4 inch and an outside diameter of

27、traps shall be made of a carbon steel or stainless steel wire, 0.025 (2 0,005) inch in thickness. If ordinary carbon steel is used, it shall have a non-corrosive finish capable of withstanding not less than 25 hours of the salt spray test when tested as specified in 4.4.1. 4 Provided by IHSNot for R

29、) pointed on both ends, backed with latex impregnated paperboard. The finished assembled chin strap (see igure 1) shall have a gold lace loop and a metal eyelet attached to each end. The gold lace loops shall not have a latex impregnated paperboard backing, Type I_- Gold Lace Chin Strap. The type I

Four hundred chin straps of one type or class only, packaged as specified in 5.1, shall be packed in a fiberboard shipping container assembled and closed conforming to class weather-resistant, grade VS, size 1, of MIL-B-17757. Level A pac

40、kages shall be packed on their side, five in length within a shipping container. 5.2.2 Level B. Four hundred chin straps of one type and class only, packaged as specified in 5.1, shall be packed in a fiberboard shipping container assembled and closed conforming to class domestic, grade 200, size 1,

41、of MIL-B-17757. Level A packages shall be packed on their side, five in length within a shipping container. 5.2-2.1 When specified, (see 6.2), the shipping container shall be a grade VC, WC, or W6c fiberboard box fabricated in accordance with MIL-B-17757 and closed in accordance with the appendix of

42、 the box specification. 5.2.3 Level C (Commercial packing) Chin straps packaged as specified in 5.1, shall be packed in a manner to insure carrier acceptance and safe delivery at destination at the lowest transportation rate for such supplies. The quantity per shipping container shall be the same as

43、 that normally used by the contractor for retail distribution. Containers shall comply with the US Postal Service Manual, Uniform Freight Classification Rules, or National Motor Freight Classification Rules, as applicable. 5.3 Marking. In addition to any special marking required by the contract or o

44、rder, interior packages and shipping containers shall be marked in accordance with MIL-STD-129. 6. NOTES 6.1 Intended use. Type I chin straps are intended for use by Warrant Officers (W-i), Naval Academy Midshipmen, Naval Reserve Officers, Naval Aviation Cadetsj Commissioned Officers, and Commission

45、ed Warrant Officers. Types III, IV, and V chin straps are intended for use by Chief Petty Officers, Junior Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps and enlisted personnel. 6.2 Ordering data.
