13、s. It is applicable to underground metal pipelines in the oil and gas gathering, distribution, and transmission industries as well as water and wastewater pipelines. This standard was prepared by NACE Task Group (TG) 251, “Coatings, Tape for External Repair, Rehabilitations, and Weld Joints on Pipel

14、ines.” This TG is administered by Specific Technology Group (STG) 03, “Coatings and Linings, Protective: Immersion and Buried Service.” It is sponsored by STG 04, “Coatings and Linings, Protective: Surface Preparation,” and STG 35, “Pipelines, Tanks, and Well Casings.” This standard is issued by NAC

23、ection, application, and performance of bonded tape coatings. These coatings are used as the external corrosion protection for new and existing pipe, girth welds, and fittings, and for repair and rehabilitation. The primary function of these tape coating systems is to prevent corrosion of the pipeli

24、ne when used with or without cathodic protection (CP). This standard provides guidelines for the proper pipeline surface preparation, tape coating system application, inspection, and tape coating damage repair to ensure long-term performance. 1.2 Bonded tape coatings can be applied in, over, or besi

25、de a pipeline trench, whether the pipeline is in service, out of service, or segmented. If an extended period of aboveground storage of coated pipe is anticipated, consideration should be given to the ability of the coating to resist degradation by ultraviolet (UV) light and other atmospheric and en

26、vironmental conditions. Because aboveground and environmental conditions for storage sites vary, the manufacturer should be consulted regarding the correct type of wrap or procedure recommended for the specific anticipated storage conditions and method for UV protection. 1.3 These tape coatings may

27、also be applied in a fabrication shop or coating plant. The manufacturer should be consulted regarding the correct type of application equipment and procedures. 1.4 The purchaser shall assess construction and soil conditions that could lead to mechanical damage (e.g., abrasion, impact, soil stress)

28、to the coating. The tape manufacturer should be consulted for the recommendations of tape systems suitable for the construction or in-ground conditions. The tape manufacturer should recommend appropriate products and procedures for ensuring the required in-service performance. Recommendations may in

29、clude either specific products or precautionary measures, e.g., special backfills, rockshield, or other damage prevention techniques. This depends on the conditions encountered. _ Section 2: Definitions Applicator: The person, company, or organization responsible to the purchaser for the coating app

30、lication. Batch or Lot: The quantity of coating material produced during a continuous production run of not more than eight hours. The quantity of coating material produced from a single batch mixture of coating material. Coating Materials: Premanufactured bonded tape coating and associated accessor

31、y products such as primer, liquid adhesives, filler materials, and coating repair materials. Coating System: The complete number and types of coats applied to a substrate in a predetermined order. (When used in a broader sense, surface preparation, pretreatments, dry film thickness, and manner of ap

32、plication are included.) Cold Applied: The application of a coating at ambient temperature, not requiring the use of heat. Cutback Area: The area of pipe left uncoated at the coating mill/plant to facilitate welding of adjacent pipe joints. Field Joint Area: The girth weld and immediate area surroun

33、ding the girth weld. Holiday: A discontinuity in a protective coating that exposes unprotected surface to the environment. Hot Applied: The application of a tape coating using a propane torch or other suitable heating device for proper application. SP0109-2009 2 NACE International Inspector: The aut

34、horized agent of the purchaser. Liquid Adhesive or Primer: Cold-applied liquids that provide a specifically designed environment to enhance the bond of a particular coating system. The liquid adhesive or primer serves to thoroughly wet the metal surface, penetrate the metal surface variations, and p

35、rovide an effective bonding medium between the metal surface and the tape wrap coating. Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS): A printed source of information about the hazards of materials, including coatings. The MSDS contains the following information: (1) product identification; (2) hazardous ingred

36、ients, including permissible exposure limits (PEL) and threshold limit value (TLV); (3) physical properties; (4) fire and explosion hazard data; (5) health hazard data; (6) chemical reactivity/stability data; (7) spill and leak procedures; (8) special protection information; and (9) additional speci

37、al precautions. Maximum Service Temperature (MST): The maximum operation temperature at which the tape coating system may be used. Metal Pipelines: Includes carbon steel, stainless steel, ductile iron, cast iron, copper, aluminum, or other metal pipelines. Multicoat Tape System: A tape system that u

38、ses more than one type of tape construction and thickness, usually an inner and outer wrap, applied as a multilayered coating system. Purchaser: The owner company or the authorized agency that has the authority over the pipe to which the coating is to be applied. Repair Area: Area of the coating tha

39、t is damaged or in need of repair. Rockshield: A durable, protective material that is bonded or nonbonded to the coating and is either perforated or electrically conductive under operating conditions to avoid shielding of cathodic protection. Shelf Life: The maximum length of time packaged materials

40、 (e.g., coating materials) can be stored at specific conditions and remain in usable condition. Single Coat Tape System: A stand-alone tape system that uses a single type of tape construction and thickness, even when applied with more than one layer in the coating system. Step-Down: The lower surfac

41、e of a transition area; two uneven adjoining pipe surfaces such as on fittings, mechanical joints, or existing coating to field coating. Substrate: The external surface of the pipe. Supplier: The manufacturer or distributor of the coating material and its authorized technician. _ Section 3: Bonded T

42、ape Coating Systems 3.1 A bonded tape coating required for normal conditions contains the following components: (a) Primer and liquid adhesives (if specified); (b) Premanufactured cold- or hot-applied tape; (c) Filler materials and seam tapes (if required); SP0109-2009 NACE International 3 (d) Coati

43、ng repair materials (if required); and (e) Rockshield or protective outer wrap (if required) 3.2 Bonded tape coating systems consist of one or several layers of materials applied to the pipe in the form of tapes by spiral or circumferential wrapping (colloquially referred to as “cigarette wrap” see

44、Paragraph 9.2.2.2). Coatings can consist of one or more basic types of coating materials as described in Paragraph 3.1 Primer and liquid adhesives (if specified), and seam tapes and filler(s) can be used in conjunction with these coating materials to improve adhesion or facilitate application. 3.3 C

45、ommon conventional single or multilayer bonded tape coating systems are defined as: (a) Single Coat Systems (see Section 4) 1. Hot-Applied Systems A tape coating system requiring the use of a propane torch or other suitable heating device for proper application. 2. Cold-Applied Systems A tape coatin

46、g system not requiring the use of heat for proper application. (b) Multicoat Systems (see Section 5) 1. Inner Layer Coating primarily designed to protect the pipe surface from corrosion damage. 2. Mechanical Outer Layer Coating primarily designed to protect the inner layer from mechanical stresses.

47、3.4 The prevailing tape coating materials and accessories are described in Tables 1 and 2.
