It is based on current best pract
3、ices and on the collective experience of the industry at this time. MSS STANDARD PRACTICE SP-140ii This MSS Standard Practice was developed under the consensus of MSS Technical Committees 304, 401, 407, and the MSS Coordinating Committee. The content of this Standard Practice is the resulting effort
4、s of competent and experienced volunteers to provide an effective, clear, and non-exclusive standard that will benefit the industry as a whole. This MSS Standard Practice describes minimal requirements and is intended as a basis for common practice by the manufacturer, the user, and the general publ
5、ic. The existence of an MSS Standard Practice does not in itself preclude the manufacture, sale, or use of products not conforming to the Standard Practice. Mandatory conformance to this Standard Practice is established only by reference in other documents such as a code, specification, sales contra
6、ct, or public law, as applicable. MSS has no power, nor does it undertake, to enforce or certify compliance with this document. Any certification or other statement of compliance with the requirements of this Standard Practice shall not be attributable to MSS and is solely the responsibility of the

SCOPE 1.1 This Standard Practice establishes general requirements for valves and fittings for use in silicone-free service requiring an increased leve
16、l of cleanliness. Specific requirements include: a) Cleaning b) Assembly and Testing of Valves c) Inspection and Acceptance d) Packaging e) Marking 1.2 Purpose This Standard Practice is intended for applications such as painting systems which are sensitive to silicone contamination and for other ser
17、vices requiring an increased level of cleanliness above that of standard industrial valves. 2. OBJECTIVE 2.1 The objective of this Standard Practice is to present methods that, when properly applied and combined, will yield a degree of cleanliness suitable for silicone-free systems. 2.2 The proper c
18、ombination of methods depends upon the component(s), method of manufacture, and type(s) of contamination present. 3. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS 3.1 Any cleaning agent used must be compatible with the material of the component being cleaned. 3.2 Chloride-free cleaning agents shall be used on stainless stee
19、l. 3.3 This Standard Practice does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of this Standard Practices user to establish appropriate safety and health practices, and to determine the applicability of regulatory limitations. 3.4 Used
20、 cleaning solutions shall be disposed of in accordance with appropriate hazardous waste regulations. 3.5 Cleaning, inspection, post-clean testing, and packaging shall be conducted by properly trained and qualified personnel knowledgeable of this Standard Practice. 4. CLEANING 4.1 Valves Prior to ass
21、embling the valve, all parts shall be separately cleaned per the following procedure: 4.1.1 The area for cleaning shall be clean and dust-free. All cleaning shall be performed in an area that is free from silicone and airborne silicone particles. 4.1.2 The assembly bench shall be covered with a clea
22、n polyethylene sheet or equivalent. 4.1.3 A full-length lint-free lab coat, or equivalent, and lint-free gloves shall be worn while in the cleaning area. 4.1.4 All valve part surfaces shall be thoroughly cleaned using appropriate cleaning agents, per instructions provided by the cleaning agent manuf
23、acturer. 4.1.4.1 Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) shall be consulted for proper handling of cleaning agents. 4.1.4.2 Some solvents may damage non-metallic parts of the valve. The cleaning agent manufacturer should be consulted for compatibility with valve part materials, or sample parts should be
24、tested to ensure the cleaning agent is not harmful to the part. 4.1.5 Clean all surfaces which may contact the valve to remove all traces of silicone.
