3、1. SCOPE. This commercial item description (CID) covers the requirements for eight types ofdrafting and plotting scales for measuring and laying out linear dimensions.2. CLASSIFICATION. The drafting scales shall be classified by the types listed below. Theselected type of scale to be supplied shall

4、be specified in the acquisition order (see 7.3(b).Type I - Scale, drafting: architects 12-inchType II - Scale, drafting: architects 18-inchType III - Scale drafting: combination English and metric measurement systemType IV - Scale, drafting: surveyorsType V - Scale, plottingType VI - Scale, plotting

5、: plotting and draftingType VII - Scale, plotting: metricType VIII - Scale, plotting: meters and yards3. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS3.1 Types. 6、.1 Type I. Type I scale shall have one edge fully divided into one-sixteenth inch, each inchdirect or boustrophedon numbered. The other edges shall be double divided in the followingcombinations: three-thirty seconds inch and one-eighth inch; three-sixteenths inch and one-quarter inch; three-eighths

7、 inch and one-half inch; three-quarters inch and one inch; one and one-half inches, and three inch divisions. The end unit of each full graduation of open-dividedarchitects scale shall be divided as follows: three-thirty seconds inch and one-eighth inch, sixdivisions; three-sixteenths inch, one-quar

8、ter inch and three-eighths inch, twelve divisions; one-halfinch; three-quarters inch, twenty-four divisions, numbered at three, six, and nine, or unnumbered;one inch, one and one-half inches, forty-eight divisions, numbered at three, six and nine; and threeinches, ninety-six divisions, numbered at t

9、hree, six, and nine. Type I scale shall have the followingshape: six bevels, triangular, facet or concave. It shall be made of wood with plastic facings. Type I scale shall be furnished in 12-inch nominal lengths.3.1.2 Type II. Type II scale shall have one edge fully divided into one-sixteenth inch,

Type III scale shall be fully divided, with one edge divided to a minimum readingof 0.5 millimeter, with every centimeter numbered. The other edge

14、shall be divided into 12inches, subdivided into thirty-seconds of an inch, with each inch numbered. Type III scale shallhave the following shape: Two bevels, flat, opposite (parallelogram). It shall be made of woodwith plastic facings. Type III scale shall be furnished in 30-centimeter nominal lengt

15、hs.3.1.4 Type IV. Type IV scale shall be fully divided to 1,000 parts per foot on one edge and to0.5 millimeters on the other edge. Scales shall be numbered at each tenth of a foot and at eachcentimeter. Type IV scale shall have the following shape: Two bevels, flat, same side (trapezoid).It shall b

16、e made of wood with plastic facings. Type IV scale shall be furnished in 12-inchnominal lengths.3.1.5 Type V. Type V scale shall be direct numbered, with scale graduations open divided. TypeV scale shall be divided in meters on both edges, graduated at 1:25,000 and 1:50,000. The scaleratio shall be

17、marked as a representative fraction. In addition, the scale ratio may also be markedin words and figures. Type V scale shall have the following shape: Two bevels, flat, same side(trapezoid). It shall be made of wood with plastic facings. Type V scale shall be furnished in 30-centimeter nominal lengt

Type VI scale shall be open divided, with four plotting and two drafting edges. All scales shall be numbered direct, with every 1,000th unit of plotting scales and every sin

19、gle unitof the drafting scales numbered. Plotting scales shall have 1,000 units and drafting scales one unitto the left of the zero mark. Plotting scales shall have every 500th unit graduated. The first edgeshall be graduated in yards at 1:25,000, with 7,000 yards to the right of the zero. The two 5

20、00-yard intervals to the left of the zero shall be subdivided at 20-yard intervals, with each 100 yardsemphasized and every 500 yards numbered from right to left. The second edge shall be graduatedin inches, divided to half inches, with 11 inches to the right of the zero. The two half-inchintervals

21、to the left of the zero shall be subdivided at 0.02-inch intervals, with each 0.1emphasized. The third edge shall be graduated in meters at 1:50,000, with 14,000 to the right ofthe zero. The fourth edge shall be graduated in meters at 1:62,500, with 18,000 to the right ofzero. On both third and four

22、th edges, the two 500 intervals to the left of the zero shall besubdivided at 50 intervals, with each 100 emphasized. The fifth edge shall be graduated in metersat 1:25,000, with 6,000 to the right of the zero. The two intervals to the left of the zero shall besubdivided at 20 intervals, with each 1

23、00 emphasized, and 500 meters and 1,000 meters numberedfrom right to left. The sixth edge shall be graduated in centimeters, with 29 cm to the right of thezero. The centimeter to the left of the zero shall be subdivided into millimeters, with each fifthmillimeter emphasized. The graduations shall be

24、 placed so that as the scale is rolled over, thesequence shall be (1) yards, 1:25,000; (2) inches; and (3) meters, 1:50,000. Meters 1:62,500 shallbe on the same side as (1), centimeters as (2), and meters 1:25,000 as (3). The scale ratio shall bemarked as a representative fraction. In addition, the

25、scale ratio may also be marked in words andfigures. Type VI scale shall have the following shape: Six bevels, triangular, flat or regular. Itshall be made of wood with plastic facings. Type VI scale shall be furnished in 12-inch nominallengths. The scale shall be furnished with an artificial leather

26、 or heavy vinyl plastic sheath asspecified in the contract or purchase order (see 7.3(c).3.1.7 Type VII. Type VII scale shall be fully divided, direct numbered, with one edge in the ratioof 1:10,000, and 1:20,000, reading to 3,000 and 6,000 meters respectively, double numbered atevery 100 and 200 me

27、ters. The other edge shall be divided in the ratio of 1:50,000 reading to15,000 meters, single number at every 1,000 meters. Type VII scale shall have the followingshape: Two bevels, flat, same side (trapezoid). It shall be made of wood with plastic facings. Type VII scale shall be furnished in 30-c

28、entimeter nominal lengths.3.1.8 Type VIII. Type VIII scale shall be fully divided in a ratio of 1:10,000 and 1:20,000,double numbered. One edge shall be graduated 5,500/11,000 yards and the other edge shall begraduated 5,000/10,000 meters. Minimum readings shall be 10/20 units, and each 250-/500-uni

29、tgraduation shall be numbered. Type VIII scale shall have the following shape: Two bevels, flat,same side (trapezoid). It shall be made of wood with plastic facings. Type VIII scale shall befurnished in 50-centimeter nominal lengths.3.2 Tests. All scales shall be visually evaluated for conformance t

30、o the specified type. The woodshall be visually inspected. REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS4.1 The offerer/contractor is encourage

31、d to use recovered materials to the maximum extentpracticable, in accordance with paragraph 23.403 of the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR).5. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS5.1 Product conformance. The products provided shall meet the salient characteristics of thiscommercial item description; conf

32、orm to the producers own drawings, specifications, standards,and quality assurance practices; and be the same product as that which the supplier offers for saleon the commercial market. The government reserves the right to require proof of suchconformance.5.2 Market acceptability. With the exception

33、 of the markings, the offeror must currently sellscales of the identical construction (i.e. type and quality of wood and plastic, construction,accuracy, straightness, flatness, etc.) on the commercial market.6. PACKAGING6.1 Preservation, packing, and marking. For acquisition purposes, the products s

34、hall bepreserved, packed, and marked as specified in the acquisition order (see 7.3(d).7. NOTES7.1 Part identification number (PIN).
