6、s been prepared under the direction of the Mining and Quarrying Requisites Standards Committee. BS6907 is based on the International Electrotechnical Commissions publication IEC621 “Electrical installations for outdoor sites under heavy conditions (including open-cast mines and quarries)” and, like
7、that publication, is published in Parts as follows. Part 1: Glossary; Part 2: General recommendations for protection against direct contact and electric shock; Part 3: Recommendations for equipment and ancillaries; Part 4: Recommendations for winning, stacking and processing machinery, pumps and low
8、 signal level and communications systems; Part 5: Recommendations for operation. BS6907 sets out the guiding principles for the installation and operation of electrical equipment so as to ensure safety of persons, livestock, property and the proper functioning of the plant. It applies to the install
9、ation and operation of electrical apparatus and systems associated with outdoor sites under heavy conditions, including open-cast mines, quarries, stockpiles, etc. It applies particularly to electrical apparatus and systems used for the following: a) winning, stacking and primary processing machiner
10、y; b) secondary processing machinery; c) conveyor systems; d) pumping and water supply systems; e) movable railway systems; f) control, signal, supervisory and communication systems. BS6907 does not cover temporary and provisional places of work in the open, such as building sites and earth-moving s
11、ites, unless the equipment used is similar to that used in surface mining applications. It takes account of British practice, electrical regulations and law and thereby differs in several respects from the IEC publication. Both cover a subject not previously the subject of an international standard
12、or a British Standard. A British Standard does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of a contract. Users of British Standards are responsible for their correct application. Compliance with a British Standard does not of itself confer immunity from legal obligations. Summary of pages T

14、:1988 BSI 08-1999 1 1 Scope This Part of BS6907 defines terms relating to electrical installations for open-cast mines and quarries. NOTEThe titles of the publications referred to in this standard are listed on the inside back cover. 2 Terms and definitions NOTE 1In the following definitions the ter
15、ms “safety” and “protection” are to be interpreted as follows. a) The term “safety” is used in a broad sense covering the safety of persons, livestock and property. In this respect the safety of property also includes those cases where safety depends on continuity of supply. b) The term “protection”
16、 is also used in a broad sense covering all measures and actions taken to protect against or prevent injury. It also includes all equipment used in connection with these measures and serving its purpose of assuring the safety of persons, livestock and electrical equipment. NOTE 2Certain definitions
17、are taken from IEC Publication50 and are identified in the text by the designation IEV XXX-XX-XX. Term Definition armour A covering consisting of metal tapes or wires used to protect a cable from external mechanical effects (IEV25-30-11). arms reach A zone extending from any point on a surface where
18、 persons usually stand or move about, to the limits which a person can reach with the hand in any direction without assistance (IEV826-03-11). barrier (screen) A part providing protection against direct contact from any usual direction of access (IEV826-03-13). closed electrical operating area An ar
19、ea accessible only through the use of a tool or key. NOTEThe area would be clearly and visibly marked by appropriate signs. competent persons Persons with technical knowledge or sufficient experience to enable them to avoid dangers which electricity may create. continuous duty A duty at a substantia
20、lly constant load for an indefinitely long time. conventional touch voltage limit (U L ) Maximum value of the touch voltage that is permitted to be maintained indefinitely in specified conditions of external influences (IEV826-02-04). conveyor system A movable or stationary mechanical item of plant
21、designed for the conveying of materials continuously from one location to another. NOTEConveyor systems include the following: a) belt conveyors; b) chain conveyors; c) bucket conveyors; d) paddle or scraper conveyors; e) screw conveyors; f) hydraulic or pneumatic conveyor systems. direct contact Co
22、ntact of persons or livestock with live parts (IEV826-03-05). drum (reeling) cable An insulated cable specially designed to be frequently reeled on and off a cable drum or reel mounted on a mobile machine. earthable point A point in the power system, e.g.of a transformer or generator, that would be
23、connected to earth if the system were to be earthed. NOTEThe earthable point may be the neutral point depending on the type of system. earth electrode A conductive part or a group of conductive parts in intimate contact with and providing an electrical connection with earth (IEV826-04-02).BS6907-1:1
