BS 860, Table of approximate comparison of hardness scales. BS 970, Wrou
11、ght steels. This British Standard has been prepared under the authority of the Mechanical Engineering Industry Standards Committee and forms one of a series covering the main types and ranges of spanners. As certain other standards in the series, relating to tubular, socket and ring spanners, will d
12、eal with all hexagon ranges, including the B.A. this standard provides for the open-jawed type only in the B.A. range. Performance tests have been omitted as being unnecessary for this type of spanner. It is felt that the quality of these tools is adequately safe-guarded by the provisions of the cla
13、uses dealing with material, heat treatment, hardness and manufacture. Open-jawed B.A. spanners fall naturally into two categories which, for convenience of nomenclature, have been designated the “spear-head” type and the “round-head” type. It should be understood that these terms refer to their gene
14、ral appearance. The decision to include both odd and even number sizes in this British Standard was made after very careful consideration, but it should be noted that provision is not made for their incorporation together on any spanner. A British Standard does not purport to include all the necessa
15、ry provisions of a contract. Users of British Standards are responsible for their correct application. Compliance with a British Standard does not of itself confer immunity from legal obligations. This will be indicated in the amendment table on the inside front cover.BS1842:1952 BSI 01-2000 1 1 Scope This British Standard relates to spanners having open-ended jaws suitable for
17、hexagons in the B.A. (British Association) range as given in BS57, “B.A. bolts, screws, nuts and washers.” Details of material and hardness are included together with dimensions and tolerances on the jaw openings. There shall be two categories, designated spear-head and round-head, which are illustr
18、ated at the head ofTable 1 andTable 2 respectively. Each spanner shall be double-ended and the range of jaw openings shall be that given in Clause4. 2 Material and hardness The material from which spanners are manufactured in accordance with this British Standard, shall conform to the analysis of on
19、e of the following specifications given in BS970, “Wrought steels”: a) Spear-head type En.18, En.47 or En.50. b) Round-head type En.42A. The spanners shall be suitably heat-treated to produce an ultimate tensile strength of74 to94 tons/sq.in. and hardness corresponding to a diamond pyramid number of
20、350 to450. NOTEFor the equivalent figure in other hardness scales, reference should be made to BS860. 1) 3 Angle of head a) Spear-head type. The angle of head shall conform to either of the following: i) both heads inclined at15 to the axis of the spanner; ii) one head in line with the axis of the s
21、panner and the other inclined at45 . b) Round-head type. All heads shall be inclined at an angle of15 to the axis of the spanner. 4 Range a) The B.A. numbers covered by spanners inthisBritish Standard shall be0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10, and11. b) The spanners shall be manufactured with both ends having
22、either even or odd numbers as follows: c) Spear-head spanners in accordance with Clause3 a) ii) above, shall be available alternatively with either of the B.A. sizes straight or inclined at45 , as shown below: 5 Tolerances on jaw openings a) Spear-head type. For all sizes the minimum jaw opening sha
23、ll be equal to the maximum dimension across flats of the hexagon plus0.002in. There shall be an additional tolerance for manufacturing purposes of+0.003in. (seeTable 1). b) Round-head type. i) For sizes from11B.A. to5B.A. inclusive, the minimum jaw opening shall be equal to the maximum dimension acr
24、oss flats of the hexagon plus0.003in. There shall be an additional tolerance, for manufacturing purposes, of +0.003in. ii) For sizes from4B.A. to0B.A. inclusive, the minimum jaw opening shall be equal to the maximum dimension across flats of the hexagon plus0.003in.
