1、Designation: C 612 09Standard Specification forMineral Fiber Block and Board Thermal Insulation1This standard is issued under the fixed designation C 612; the number immediately following the designation indicates the year oforiginal adoption or, in the case of revision, the year of last revision. A

Asuperscript epsilon () indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.This standard has been approved for use by agencies of the Department of Defense.1. Scope1.1 This specification covers the classification, composi
3、tion,dimension, and physical properties of mineral fiber (rock, slag,or glass) semi-rigid and rigid board intended for the use asthermal insulation on surfaces operating at temperatures be-tween 0F (-18C) and 1800F (982C). For specific applica-tions, the actual temperature limits shall be agreed upo
4、nbetween the supplier and the purchaser.1.2 For satisfactory performance, properly installed protec-tive vapor retarder or barriers shall be used on below ambienttemperature applications to reduce movement of water throughor around the insulation towards the colder surface. Failure touse a vapor ret
5、arder or barrier can lead to insulation and systemdamage. Refer to Practice C 921 to aid material selection.Although vapor retarder properties are not part of this specifi-cation, properties required in Specification C 1136 are perti-nent to applications or performance.1.3 The orientation of the fib
6、ers within the boards isprimarily parallel to the principal surface (face). This specifi-cation does not cover fabricated pipe and tank wrap insulationwhere the insulation has been cut and fabricated to provide afiber orientation that is perpendicular to the surface (face).1.4 This standard does not
7、 purport to provide the perfor-mance requirements of hourly-rated fire systems. Consult themanufacturer for the appropriate system.1.5 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regardedas standard. The values given in parentheses are mathematicalconversions to SI units that are provided for in

Classification4.1 Mineral fiber board insulation covered by this specifi-cation shall be classified into seven types with two grades forType V and two categories, shown in Table 1. This classifica-tion is based upon the insu
22、lations maximum use temperature,maximum apparent thermal conductivity, minimum compres-sive resistance, maximum linear shrinkage, maximum watervapor sorption, and maximum surface burning characteristics.4.1.1 Category 1No compressive resistance (load-bearing) properties are required.4.1.2 Category 2
23、Minimum compressive resistance (load-bearing) properties are required.4.1.3 Type V, Grade ARequires no heat-up schedule.4.1.4 Type V, Grade BHeat-up schedule isrequired.WarningGrade B may not be suitable for applica-tions requiring hot installation capability at the maximumtemperature indicated. In
24、general, products having a Grade Bdesignation are designed to be used with a heat-up schedule.Failure to use a heat-up schedule with Grade B products maylead to an exothermic reaction.
