Scope*1.1 This specification2covers martensitic stainless steel andalloy steel castings for valves, flanges, fittings, and otherpres
4、sure-containing parts (Note 1) intended primarily forhigh-temperature and corrosive service (Note 2).1.2 One grade of martensitic stainless steel and nine gradesof ferritic alloy steel are covered. Selection will depend ondesign and service conditions, mechanical properties, and thehigh-temperature
5、and corrosion-resistant characteristics (Note3).NOTE 1Carbon steel castings for pressure-containing parts are cov-ered by Specification A 216/A 216M. Low alloy quench-and-temperedgrades equivalent to Specification A 217/A 217M grades may be found inboth Specifications A 352/A 352M and A 487/A 487M.N
6、OTE 2The grades covered by this specification represent materialsthat are generally suitable for assembly with other castings or wroughtsteel parts by fusion welding. It is not intended to imply that these gradespossess equal degrees of weldability; therefore, it is the responsibility ofthe purchase
7、r to establish for himself a suitable welding technique. Sincethese grades possess varying degrees of suitability for high-temperatureand corrosion-resistant service, it is also the responsibility of the purchaserto determine which grade shall be furnished, due consideration beinggiven to the requir
8、ements of the applicable construction codes.NOTE 3The committee formulating this specification has includednine grades of materials that are considered to represent basic types offerritic alloy steels suitable for valves, flanges, fittings, and other pressure-containing parts.Additional alloy steels
9、 that may better fulfill certain typesof service will be considered for inclusion in this specification by thecommittee as the need becomes apparent.1.3 The values stated in either inch-pound units or SI unitsare to be regarded separately as standard. Within the text, theSI units are shown in bracke
10、ts. The values stated in eachsystem are not exact equivalents; therefore, each system mustbe used independently of the other. Combining values from thetwo systems may result in nonconformance with the specifi-cation. Inch-pound units are applicable for material ordered toSpecification A 217 and SI u

General Conditions for Delivery3.1 Except for investment castings, castings furnished tothis specification shall conform to the requirements of Speci-fication A 703/A 703M including any supplementary require-ments that are indicated in the purchase order. Failure tocomply with the general requir

Incase of conflict between the requirements of this specificationand Specification A 703/A 703M, this specification shall pre-vail.3.2 Steel investment castings furnished to this specificationshall conform to the requirements of Specificat
19、ion A 985/A 985M, including any supplementary requirements that areindicated in the purchase order. Failure to comply with thegeneral requirements of Specification A 985/A 985M consti-tutes nonconformance with this specification. In case of con-flict between the requirements of this specification an
20、d Speci-fication A 985/A 985M, Specification A 985/A 985M shallprevail.4. Ordering Information4.1 The inquiry and order should include or indicate thefollowing:4.1.1 A description of the casting by pattern number ordrawing (dimensional tolerances shall be included on thecasting drawing),4.1.2 Grade
21、of steel,4.1.3 Options in the specification,4.1.4 Whether the castings are to be produced using theinvestment casting process, and4.1.5 The supplementary requirements desired including thestandards of acceptance.5. Heat Treatment5.1 All castings shall receive a heat treatment proper to theirdesign a
22、nd chemical composition.5.2 Castings shall be furnished in the normalized andtempered conditions; Grades WC1, WC4, WC5, WC6, andCA15 shall be tempered at 1100F 595C min; Grades WC9,C5, C12, and WC11 shall be tempered at 1250F 675C min;Grade C12A shall be normalized at 1900-1975F 1040-1080C and tempe
23、red at 1350-1470F 730-800C.5.3 Heat treatment shall be performed after castings havebeen allowed to cool below the transformation range.6. Chemical Composition6.1 The steel shall be in accordance with the requirementsas to chemical composition prescribed in Table 1 (Note 4).NOTE 4The role of alloyin
24、g elements in the development of GradeC12A has been extensively investigated. V and Cb contribute to precipi-tation strengthening by forming fine and coherent precipitation ofM(C,N)X carbo-nitrides in the ferrite matrix. V also precipitates as VNduring tempering or during creep. The two elements are
