2、s and Agencies of the Department of Defense. 1. SCOPE 1.1 Scope. This specification covers the requirements for (see 6.1). 2. APPLICABLE DOCUMENTS 2.1 General. The documents listed in this section are specified in sections 3 and 4 of this specification. This section does not include documents cited

Nothing in this document, however, supersedes applicable laws and regulations unless a specific exemption has been o

17、btained. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.1 First article. When specified (see 6.2) by the procuring activity, a sample of 137 ignition elements shall be subjected to first article inspection (see 6.3) in accordance with 4.3.2. The sample shall be manufactured using the same methods and procedures proposed for the

18、 production lot and is for the purpose of determining that the contractor, prior to starting production, is capable of producing items which comply with the technical requirements of the contract. 3.2 Conformance to documents. The Ignition Element, Electric, Mark 17 Mod O, covered by this specificat

19、ion shall be manufactured in accordance with the drawings listed on DL 613468. 3.3 Materials. All materials used in the manufacture of the ignition elements shall conform strictly with the specifications referred to on the respective drawings, unless specific approval in writing covering a departure

20、 therefrom has been obtained from the Navy cognizant field activity for cartridges prior to manufacture. When alternate materials or methods of manufacture are specified on the drawings, the bidder?s selections shall be clearly stated in the proposal. 3.4 Primary components. For the purposes of this

21、 specification the ignition compositions, primer composition, and main propellant charge are defined as primary components.(See 4.3.3.). 3.5 Cleanliness and condition of parts. All parts shall be free of chips, dirt, grease, rust and all other foreign materials. There shall be no burrs nor other imp

22、erfections of manufacture which would harmfully affect either the assembly or the functioning of the product. The cleaning methods which are used shall not be injurious to any of the parts nor shall the parts be contaminated by the cleaning agents which are used. 3.6 Explosive components volatiles.

23、The ignition compositions and the primer compositions shall have a maximum moisture content of 0.5 percent at the time of loading, as determined in accordance with 3 Provided by IHSNot for ResaleNo reproduction or networking permitted without license from IHS-,-,-4.7.1. After consolidation of the pr

24、imer composition, the subassembly shall be dried in accordance with Drawing 2302224. 3.7 Insulation resistance. The insulation resistance between shorted electrodes (connector pins) and receptacle of each completely assembled ignition element shall be a minimum of 20 megohms when tested in accordanc

25、e with 4.7.3 at a relative humidity of 80 percent or less. 3.8 Ignition and primer compositions, compounding and loading. The ignition compositions and the primer composition shall be compounded in accordance with the applicable drawings, and shall be loaded in accordance with Drawings 25 19610 and

26、2302224, respectively. 3.9 Propellant charges. 3.9.1 Quantity. All propellant charges shall be as specified on Drawing 2302224. Charges shall be determined by weight rather than by volume measurements. 3.9.2 Smokeless powder, handling and loading. Do not subject the smokeless powder to unnecessary h

27、andling or exposure to the atmosphere. The handling and loading of smokeless powder exposed to the atmosphere shall be performed only under conditions that do not permit the relative humidity to exceed 75 percent. 3.9.2.1 Smokeless powder, condition. The smokeless powder utilized shall exhibit no ev

28、idence of decomposition. (See 4.7.2.) 3.10 Ignition element inspection. 3.10.1 Visual inspection. Ignition elements shall be free of the following visible defects: chips, burrs rough edges, incomplete threads, improper crimp, perforated closure disc, or any other imperfections which could, harmfully

29、 affect either assembly or functioning. (See 4.7.6.) 3.10.2 Bridge circuit resistance. The resistance of the bridge circuit in each completely assembled ignition element, when measured electrically as specified in 4.7.5, shall be not less than 1.0 ohm nor more than 1.2 ohms. 3.10.3 Leakage. Ignition

30、 element leakage rate shall not exceed 10 -5 cc of air or gas per second, when tested in accordance with 4.7.7. 3.10.4 X-ray. Ignition elements shall be free, of the following defects when examined by X-ray in accordance with 4.7.4: improper assembly of components, charges or inert components missin

31、g, or any other imperfections which could adversely affect performance. 3.11 Tests. 3.11.1 Electric sensitivity. 4 Provided by IHSNot for ResaleNo reproduction or networking permitted without license from IHS-,-,-3.11.1.1 No-fire. The ignition element shall not fire when an electric current of 1.0 +

32、0.10, -0.00 ampere (A) is applied in accordance with 4.7.8.1. 3.11.1.2 All-fire. The ignition element shall fire within 0.025 second when an electric current of 4.0 +0.10, -0.00 A is applied in accordance with 4.7.8.2. 3.11.2 Ballistic requirements. Ignition elements from each production lot, select

33、ed in accordance with 4.7.9, shall meet the requirements listed below when subjected to the tests prescribed in 4.7.9. 3.11.2.1 Chamber pressure. The upper (U) and lower (L) limits of maximum chamber pressure, in pounds per square inch (psi), shall be 1800 psi and 1200 psi, respectively. 3.11.2.2 Re

34、sponse time. The time from application of firing current to start of pressure rise shall not exceed 0.025 second. The time from start of pressure rise to maximum pressure shall not exceed 0.015 second. 3.11.2.3 Misfire. There shall be no misfires. (See 4.7.9.2.3.) 3.12 Workmanship. Ignition elements

35、 shall be constructed and finished in a manner to assure compliance with all requirements of this specification. Particular attention should be directed to dimensions, finishes and coatings. 4. VERIFICATION 4.1 Classification of inspections. a. First article inspection (see 4.3.2). b. Conformance in

36、spection (see 4.6). 4.2 Sampling. Unless otherwise specified, and when applicable, the, sampling plans and procedures used in the determination of the acceptability of products submitted by a supplier shall be in accordance with the provisions of ANSUASQC 21.4 or 21.9, whichever applies. 4.3 Lots. 4

37、.3.1 Inspection lots. Inspection lot definition, formation, and size shall be in accordance with ANSUASQC Z1.4 or Z1.9, whichever applies. 4.3.2 First article. When specified by the procuring activity and before entering into quantity production, an acceptable first article sample of 137 ignition el

38、ements shall be prepared. Of these ignition elements, 127 shall be expended in the tests listed below and ten shall be retained for investigative purposes. A first article sample acceptable for environmental and functional testing shall be defined as a sample which has met the requirements of 3.4 th

First article sample acceptance shall consist of the following tests, which, except as otherwise specified herein, shall be conducted i

40、n accordance with MIL-1-23659: a. 40-foot drop (6) (nonfiring test); temperature and humidity cycling (THC) (36); vibration (12); high temperature (12); low temperature (12); untreated (12). The numbers in parentheses denote the, allocation of ignition elements for the tests. b. After exposure to th

41、e specified environmental treatment, the units from THC and the vibration tests, together with the 12 untreated units, shall be conditioned for a minimum of 6 hours at 70“ k5“F and fired in the test set as specified in 4.7.9.1. All of these units shall fire and produce results within the limits set

42、forth in 3.11.2.1 and 3.11.2.2. c. The units allocated for the high temperature and low temperature tests shall be conditioned at 225“ k5“F and -80“ k5“F, respectively, for not less than 6 nor more than 24 hours and fired in the test set as specified in 4.7.9.1. All of these, units shall fire and pr

43、oduce results within the limits set forth in 3.1 1.2.1 and 3.1 1.2.2 except that the upper and lower limits of maximum pressure for these units shall be 1900 psi and 1000 psi, respectively. d. In addition, 25 ignition elements shall be subjected to the no-fire and all-fire tests. None of these 25 un

44、its shall fire, when temperature conditioned and tested in accordance with 4.7.8.1, and all of these same 25 units shall fire within 0.025 second when temperature conditioned and tested in accordance with 4.7.8.2. e. Additionally, 12 ignition elements shall be subjected to an electrostatic sensitivi

45、ty test. Each of these 12 units shall withstand the stimulus from an electrically charged capacitor without firing when tested as specified in the applicable paragraph under the electrical tests of MIL-1-23659. All of the specified firings and tests shall be, conducted within 3 minutes after removal

46、 of the units from the specified temperature conditioning. The failure of any ignition element to meet the requirements as stated above shall cause rejection of the first article sample. 4.3.3 Production lot. The suggested ignition element production lot size is 1301 minimum and 3200 maximum. Only p

47、rimary components from a single lot or batch shall be used in a production lot of ignition elements; however, one primary component production lot may be used in more than one ignition element production lot. 4.4 Gages. The contractor shall provide gages as necessary to insure that the material to w

48、hich this specification applies will meet the dimensional requirements shown on the applicable drawings. 4.5 Classification of characteristics. The characteristics verified by the tests and examinations herein are classified as critical, major or minor in accordance with DOD-STD-2101. Tests and exam

49、inations that verify critical characteristics are identified by the symbol (C) and major characteristics by the symbol (M). The number following the classification symbol indicates the serial number of test or examination.
