14、ields. The maximum length of each discrete data field shall be 25 data characters unless otherwise specified. This character count is exclusive of overhead characters. Overhead characters are those characters included within the symbol that are not data characters, e.g., start, stop, error checking,
15、 concatenation, and field identifier characters. It is important that the appropriate identifiers i.e., Data Identifiers (DIs) and Application Identifiers (AIs) and symbology overhead (e.g., start and stop characters, check characters, field separators, finder patterns, error correction characters,
16、etc.) are utilized in accordance with their associated industry and symbology standards. All mandatory data fields shall be machine-readable. Optional data fields should be machine-readable. 6.1 When Using the ATIS AIDC Cable Reel ID For ATIS AIDC Cable Reels, the Cable Reel ID as defined in ATIS 03
17、00044 - Guidelines for the Identification and Bar Code Labeling of Cable Reels serves as the unique license plate. The Cable Reel ID is intended to be scanned at shipping, during transportation, at receiving, and through the distribution of the product. The Cable Reel ID is then referenced to more c
18、omprehensive information about the package which exists in the shipment originators database or is communicated by the shipment originator to the originators trading partners via electronic data interchange. In such a scenario the originators trading partners must have already received and processed
19、 this EDI information. 6.2 When Using ANSI X12 in a Machine-readable Medium The nature of EDI may find that the receipt of shipment data may lack the timeliness for trading partners to have available that information provided electronically by the originator. One such type of business document excha
20、nged by trading partners that may suffer from such lack of timeliness is the Ship Notice/Manifest (ANSI ASC X12 EDI 856). _ 6This document is available from the International Organization for Standardization. ATIS-0300045 4 To facilitate the timely availability of trading partner shipment and produc
21、t related data, this guideline recommends that in addition to the electronic transmission of data via EDI, either the printing of a PDF417 two-dimensional symbol or, with trading partner agreement, encoding the data in an ISO 17364 compliant radio frequency identification tag. The only exception to
22、ISO 17364 for a telecommunications cable reel is that the Data Identifier for the cable reel shall be 1B (per ATIS-0300044) vs. 25B. The format of the data shall be as specified in ISO/IEC 15434, Format “02”. The output of the reader shall be programmed to have the syntax and coding structures ident
23、ical to the syntax and coding of the appropriate ANSI ASC X12 856 transaction set with version levels and usage consistent with the ANSI ASC X12 856 convention For these machine-readable media the ANSI ASC X12 856 transaction set shall be encoded inclusive of the ST and SE segments, using a data ele
24、ment separator of an ASCII Decimal “42” asterisk and a segment terminator of an ASCII Decimal “13” carriage return. 6.2.1 Hierarchical Structures The X12 EDI Ship Notice/Manifest (Transaction 856) is a hierarchical document, that is, the electronic document which can: Represent one or several shipme
