3、ractice provides guidance in the selection of typesand thicknesses of thermal insulation materials for piping,machinery, and equipment for nonnuclear shipboard applica-tions. Methods and materials for installation, including lag-ging, are also detailed.1.2 Supplemental requirements and exceptions to
4、 the re-quirements discussed herein for ships of the U.S. Navy areincluded in Supplementary Requirements S1.1.3 Asbestos or asbestos-containing materials shall not beused.1.4 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regardedas the standard. Materials and Manufacture4.1 Insulation and Lagging Material Specifications,aslisted in Tables 1-17, describe those materials that are inte

The specificationsand requirements outlined herein are not intended to preventthe use of new test methods or materials, provided thatsufficient technical data is submitted to demonstrate that theproposed test method or material is equivalent in qualit
23、y,effectiveness, durability, and safety to that prescribed by thispractice.5. General Requirements5.1 Piping, including valves, fittings, and flanges conveyingvapors, gases, or liquids that attain temperatures outside therange from 55 to 125F (13 to 52C) during normal operation,shall be insulated ex
24、cept as otherwise stated herein.5.2 The insulation thicknesses specified in this practice aredesigned to maintain the surface temperature at or below 125F(52C) for fluid temperatures up to 650F (343C) with anambient temperature of 85F (29C).
