Asuperscript epsilon () indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.INTRODUCTIONThis specification offers a way to address environmental sustai
3、nability in the meeting and eventindustry. It is a tool for event planners and suppliers to understand the attributes of an environmentallysustainable event. The goal in developing this specification is to establish common benchmarks forenvironmental performance in events for both planner and suppli
4、er sectors. This specificationconsiders the creation of an environmentally sustainable event to be a partnership between plannersand their suppliers. Each plays a critical role in the effort.In this specification, options are addressed for minimizing the environmental impact of face-to-faceevents. T
5、he approach of this specification is to focus on measurable outcomes and policies for plannersand suppliers. This maximizes the ability of businesses to select the methods best tailored to theirneeds to achieve benchmarks and measurable outcomes.1. Scope1.1 This specification delineates procedural r
6、equirementsfor establishing onsite offices in conjunction with meetings,events, trade shows, or conferences (hereafter, referred to asevents) by planners and suppliers.1.2 Establishing an onsite office is the practice of procuringand equipping planner event or working spaces used foroperational purp
7、oses, within or nearby the venues.1.3 This specification pertains to onsite offices establishedby the event organizers for use by the events planner, staff,volunteers, sponsors, or vendors requiring temporary offices.1.4 An environmentally sustainable office includes aspectsof accommodations, commun
8、ication and marketing materials,exhibits, food and beverage, venues, and transportation speci-fications. The specifications of these standards shall be visitedand understood by planners and suppliers in order to effectivelycarry out the specifications of the onsite office standard.1.5 There are nine
9、 specifications covering the followingareas of meeting planning: destination selection, accommoda-tions, food and beverage, audio visual, onsite offices, commu-nication and marketing materials, transportation, exhibits, andvenues. Within each specification are eight categories ofcriteria: staff mana
10、gement policy, communications, waste man-agement, energy, air quality, water, procurement, and commu-nity partners. Each category is further split into four progres-sive levels of achievement. Information within eachspecification is divided as follows: Main BodyScope, Ref-erenced Documents, Terminol
11、ogy, Planner Requirements forLevel 1. Supplier Requirements for Level 1, and Keywords;AnnexesPlanner Requirements for Levels 2 4 and SupplierRequirements for Levels 2 4.1.6 All areas of performance under this specification maynot be relevant for each event or for each facility or provider ofevent se
12、rvices. In some cases, an event planner would use thisspecification in conjunction with other specifications (forexample, Specifications E2774, E2743) or this specificationmay be used individually. In other words, elements of an eventmay be separated and considered solely or added together andconsid
13、ered as a unit (for example, venues used individuallyversus transportation, accommodations, and destination selec-tion used in conjunction). Furthermore, this specificationapplies separately to each supplier for an event. This means ifmultiple suppliers are used within the context of a singlespecifi
14、cation, each supplier shall individually meet the supplierrequirements. To be considered an environmentally sustainableevent at Level 1, all areas applicable to that event shall beachieved.1This specification is under the jurisdiction of ASTM Committee E60 onSustainability and is the direct responsi

16、the eventcan only be considered environmentally sustainable at thelowest level achieved.1.8 The use of levels within this specification recognizes thepath to environmentally sustainable meetings is a multi-stageeffort. The idea behind the levels is to provide a coherentbaseline for measuring environ
17、mental performance, to beflexible enough to adapt to the needs of more advancedplanners, and to establish a performance path that encouragesfurther environmental performance improvement. In addition,evolution of products and services to support events is ex-pected, allowing additional advancements a
18、nd underscoringthe dynamic nature of environmental sustainability. This speci-fication primarily focuses on environmental sustainability,while some aspects of economic and social sustainability areincluded recognizing the complete path toward overall sustain-ability.1.9 This standard does not purpor
19、t to address all of thesafety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is theresponsibility of the user of this standard to establish appro-priate safety and health practices and determine the applica-bility of regulatory limitations prior to use.2.
