Scope1.1 This test method is used to determine
3、 the amount andparticle size distribution curve of particles with diameter 106micrometers or smaller resulting from the attrition of granularpesticides.1.2 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns, if any, associated with its use. Terminology3.1 Definitions:3.1.1 finesa synonym for particles with diameter of 106micrometers or smaller.3.1.2 micron and msynonyms for micrometer.4. Summary of Test Method4.1 The initial weight
6、of a test sample of granular pesticideis determined. The sample is then air jet sieved using 106micron openings to remove the inherent fines. The fines-freegranules are then combined with glass beads in a glass jar, thelid is placed on the jar, and the jar is placed on a roller systemwith a drive be
7、d capable of rotating the jar at a known rpm.After rolling for a specified time period, the jar is removedfrom the rollers and the contents of the jar are poured througha sieve sized to remove the glass beads. The sample minus theglass beads is again air jet sieved using 106micron openings toremove
8、the fines attrited during the rolling of the jar. The totalof particles smaller than 106microns for the test sample is theinherent fines plus the attrited fines. The particle size distribu-tion curve of the combined inherent and attrited fines isdetermined by laser light diffraction using CIPAC Test
9、 MethodMT 187.5. Significance and Use5.1 This test method is designed specifically for granularpesticide formulations.5.2 This test method helps provide information on healthhazards likely to arise from exposures by the inhalation route.It can be of use in selecting dose levels for chronic studies a
10、ndfor establishing safety criteria for human exposure.5.3 The amount of fines determined by this method is ameasure of potential inhalation and respiration toxicity becausethe hazards of inhaled solid substances are influenced byphysical factors such as particle size.6. Always wear the appropriate safety equip-ment and, where indicated, wear respiratory devices approvedby the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health(NIOSH) fo
18、r the product being tested.8.2 Storage, handling, and disposal of test pesticides shouldbe done with consideration for health and environmentalsafety, and in accordance with federal, state, and local regula-tions.9. 19、g practicesand procedures to reduce a gross sample to a representative,suitable size for this test method.10. Preparation of Apparatus10.1 For all apparatus, see manufacturers instructions forproper calibration, operation, and maintenance.11. Procedure11.1 The test sample should be 15 g, nominal. Th
20、e exactamount of each sample should be recorded for use in necessarycalculations.11.2 Weigh the test sample to the nearest 0.01 g (15 gnominal) and record as W (granules plus inherent inhalableparticles).11.3 Weigh the cyclone collection jar to the nearest 0.01 gand record as J1.
