1、Designation: D8195 18Standard Classification System and Basis for Specification forPolyethylene Terephthalate Film and Sheeting1This standard is issued under the fixed designation D8195; the number immediately following the designation indicates the year oforiginal adoption or, in the case of revisi
2、on, the year of last revision. A number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval. Asuperscript epsilon () indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1. Scope1.1 This standard provides a classification system for tabu-lating the properties for biaxially oriented p
3、olyethylene te-rephthalate film and sheeting in thicknesses from 1.5 m to 355m. For this classification system, polyethylene terephthalatefilm and sheeting shall be defined as the material derived fromterephthalic acid and ethylene glycol and shall consist of atleast 90 % polyethylene terephthalate
4、homopolymer with atypical melting temperature range of 225 C to 250 C. Thisspecification does not apply to coated, coextruded, tinted,pigmented, or metallized film or sheeting. This classification(in accordance with D8065/D8065M) is intended to eventuallyreplace Specification D5047 (ref. Note 3).NOT
5、E 1Film is defined in Terminology D883 as an optional term forsheeting having a nominal thickness no greater than 250 m.NOTE 2In order to conform to the original scope of SpecificationD5047, this classification also includes sheeting up to and includingthicknesses of 355 m.NOTE 3It is strongly recom
6、mended that this classification system beused for all new applications and specifications and that the specificationof films referencing Specification D5047 be expeditiously withdrawn orconverted to this classification system.1.2 Polyethylene terephthalate materials, beingthermoplastic, are reproces
7、sable and recyclable. This specifi-cation allows for the use of those polyethylene terephthalateplastic materials, provided that any specific requirements asgoverned by the producer and end user are met.1.3 In all cases where the provisions of this classificationsystem would conflict with a currentl
8、y referenced ASTMspecification for a particular film product, the latter shall takeprecedence (see Note 3).1.4 This classification system applies to commercial prod-ucts and, as such, there is no control over the manufacturingparameters employed in producing the film. It shall be theresponsibility o
9、f those developing the specification documentsutilizing this classification system to identify the criticalparameters and values to be used for the cell classifications andsuffix requirements.1.5 UnitsThe values stated in SI units are to be regardedas standard. No other units of measurement are incl
10、uded in thisstandard.1.6 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns, if any, associated with its use.
