2、in. 1 The big challenge we face in these early years of the 21st century, is how to grow our economies and ensure shared prosperity to all nations and all people. 2 The United States continues to make women a cornerstone of our foreign policy. Its not just the right thing to do. Its the smart thing.
3、 3 But today, our immigration system is broken, and everybody knows it. Families who enter our country the right way and play by the rules watch others flout the rules. Business owners who offer good wages and benefits see the competitor exploit undocumented immigrants by paying them far less. 4 In
4、the U. S. , money politics and clan politics were prevailing and the political rights of the citizens were not safeguarded effectively. In this way, corporations could use money to sway politics and reap tremendous returns. 5 Its kept us youthful, dynamic and entrepreneurial. It has shaped our chara
5、cter as a people with limitless possibilities. 6 The values of tolerance, freedom and respect these are the values that define us in Britain. Not only should we take great pride in them, we should encourage the rest of the world to take our lead. 7 In the last few weeks, I had a chance to visit both
6、 New Jersey and New York. And while Ive seen entire neighborhoods reduced to rubble and heartbreaking loss and devastation, I have yet to find a broken spirit. 8 What makes us Americans is our shared commitment to an ideal, that all of us are created equal, and all of us have the chance to make of o
7、ur lives what we will. Thats the country our parents and grandparents and generations before them built for us. 9 My government will continue to deliver the best schools and skills for young people. In England, my ministers will help more schools to become academies and support more free schools to
8、open, whilst continuing investment to deliver more school places. And to improve education attainment and child health, my government will ensure all infants will receive a free school meal. Free childcare will be extended to more of the most disadvantaged 2-year-olds and a bill will be introduced t
9、o help working families with childcare costs. 10 Tonight Im announcing some new actions. First, well build on our progress at the border with additional resources for our law enforcement personnel so that they can stem the flow of illegal crossings and speed the return of those who do cross over: Se
10、cond, Ill make it easier and faster for high-skilled immigrants, graduates and entrepreneurs to stay and contribute to our economy, as so many business leaders proposed: Third, well take steps to deal responsibly with the millions of undocumented immigrants who already had lived in our country. 11 I
11、 am delighted to once again be standing before you as we celebrate Canada Day. But why do we come together every year on this day? What are we really celebrating on July 1st? First, we are celebrating the bonds of solidarity and friendship that helped create this country. Those bonds are embedded in
12、 our hearts. Because here in Canada, we help people when they are suffering. In Canada, our differences enrich us as a people. In Canada, what is good for one person is good for everyone. And these bonds of solidarity and friendship grow stronger every day because we live in an ideal of justice and
13、freedom that is the envy of the entire world. I was born in a country that was under a merciless dictatorship, so like many Canadians who have come here from abroad, I know how precious that freedom really is. We cannot overstate how lucky we are to be able to think, speak, choose, act and live in c
14、omplete freedom: not when barbarism and misery affect so many countries and people around the world. On this July 1st, let us reflect on the message of hope that we, as Canadians, bring to the world. Let us also remember the commitment of our soldiers and the difficult missions they are leading in e
15、lsewhere. Let us remember their families and loved ones. I would like to tell you about a strong conviction that I developed at a very young age, when my family and I had to start our lives all over again, away from the terror. I have based my very existence on this conviction. It guides all my deci
16、sions, all my choices, and I would like to share it with you for the remainder of my mandate as governor general of Canada. I am one of those people who believe that anything is possible in this world. And here in Canada, we have the greatest opportunities to reach our full potential and achieve our
17、 loftiest dreams. This year we are celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Order of Canada. The women and men who have received our countrys highest honor were never hesitant to test the limits, both their own and those of the world around them. They achieved remarkable things because they believed
18、in their ability to reinvent life, help society move forward, and change the course of history. They represent the very best of us. I would like to take the opportunity, on this Canada Day, to issue a challenge to all the young people here and everywhere across the country. You have the ability to l
19、ook at the world with fresh eyes. Do not set yourselves any limits. Dream big. Be daring. Act. On this July 1st, let us celebrate all these dreams, all these everyday actions, all these projects and all these achievements. Let us strengthen the bonds of solidarity that make Canada the generous count
