In China, which led the world in fertilizer use, farmers increased their reliance on fertilizer from around 28 million tons in 1995 to about 29 mil

Consumption in America in 2000 was up slightly, from about 18 million tons to 19 million tons in 2000. This level of fertilizer use was still much below that duri

11、ng the early eighties. India, too, boosted consumption from 13 million tons in 1995 to 14 million tons in 2000. But the recent growth in fertilizer use was kept almost to a minimum in view of the remarkable increase before 1990. Fertilizer use in the former Soviet Union continued declining in 2000,

12、the 10th consecutive year of decline. From the peak use of around 27 million tons in 1990 to the 10 million tons of 2000, Soviet fertilizer use had fallen by more than half. To have the greatest competitive advantage, New Horizons hotel should be located in the shopping and business center of the city with ample banquet and conference space,

16、parking, and modem facilities such as a health center, sauna, pool, and squash court. The number of trained personnel to work in the tourism industry is insufficient. Managers do not understand Western management methods. Workers have not been trained to give friendly, high-quality service. And only

New Horizons should bring in an international management team and international workers to provide the service international travelers expect in a five-star hotel. More information is needed to decide whether to build a new hotel or buy an existing property. Building a new hotel would be the simplest option, since any existing building would need extensive revision. However, an existing building would have architectural and perhaps historic interest and might be more appealing to tourists.
