Materials and Manufacture4.1 The steel may be made by any process.4.2 If a s

20、pecific type of melting is required by the purchaser,it shall be as stated on the purchase order.4.3 The primary melting may incorporate separate degas-sing or refining, and may be followed by secondary melting,such as electroslag or vacuum-arc remelting. If secondarymelting is employed, the heat sh

21、all be defined as all of theingots remelted from a single primary heat.4.4 Steel may be cast in ingots or may be strand cast. Whensteel of different grades is sequentially strand cast, identifica-tion of the resultant transition material is required. Theproducer shall remove the transition material

22、by an establishedprocedure that positively separates the grades.4.5 Tubes shall be made by the electric-resistance-weldedprocess and shall be made from hot- or cold-rolled steel asspecified.4.5.1 The weld shall not be located within the radius of thecorners of any shaped tube unless specified by the

23、 purchaser.5. Chemical Composition5.1 The steel shall conform to the requirements as tochemical composition prescribed in Table 1 or Table 2 (SeeSpecification A1040). If no grade is specified, Grades MT 1010to MT 1020 may be furnished. Analyses of steels other thanthose listed are available. To dete

24、rmine their availability, thepurchaser should contact the producer.5.2 When a carbon steel grade is ordered under thisspecification, supplying an alloy grade that specifically re-quires the addition of any element other than those listed forthe ordered grade in Tables 1 and 2 is not permitted.5.3 Me

25、chanical tubing with improved ductility may beproduced from Drawing Steel (Types A and B), Deep DrawingSteel, or Extra Deep Drawing Steels identified in SpecificationsA1008/A1008M, A1011/A1011M,orA1039/A1039M. ThoseSpecifications offer guidance in the form of nonmandatoryTypical Ranges of Mechanical

Heat Analysis6.1 An analysis of each heat of steel shall be made by thesteel manufacturer to determine the percentages of the ele-ments specified; if secondary melting processes are employed,the heat analysis shall be obtained from one remelted ingot orthe product of one remelted ingo

27、t of each primary melt. Theheat analysis shall conform to the requirements specified,except that where the heat identity has not been maintained orwhere the analysis is not sufficiently complete to permitconformance to be determined, the chemical composition4Available from American National Standard

32、ntract, a reportof such analysis shall be furnished to the purchaser.7. Product Analysis7.1 When requested on the purchase order, a product analy-sis shall be made by the supplier. The number and source ofsamples for such product analysis shall be based on theindividual heat or lot identity of one o

33、f the following forms ofmaterial:7.1.1 Heat Identity MaintainedOne product analysis perheat shall be made on either the flat-rolled stock or tube.7.1.2 Heat Identity Not MaintainedA product from onetube per 2000 ft 600 m or less for sizes over 3 in. 75 mm,and one tube per 5000 ft 1500 m or less for

34、sizes 3 in. 75mm and under.7.2 Samples for product analysis except for spectrochemicalanalysis shall be taken in accordance with Practice A751. Thecomposition thus determined shall correspond to the require-ments of Tables 1 and 2.7.3 If the original test for product analysis fails, retests oftwo ad

35、ditional lengths of flat-rolled stock or tubes shall bemade. Both retests for the elements in question shall meet therequirements of the specification; otherwise, all remainingmaterial in the heat or lot shall be rejected or, at the option ofthe producer, each length of flat-rolled stock or tube may
