A superscript epsilon () indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1. Scope1.1 This specification is for seamless cold-finished carbonsteel round structur
3、al frame tubing for automotive racingapplications. The chemical requirements are listed in Table 1.Tubing may be used for other applications requiring similartolerances and properties. The specification includes require-ments for heat treatment and mechanical properties to meet theneeds for the appl
4、ication. The tubing is intended to be bent andjoined by welding. The welding procedure shall be suitable forthe grade, the condition of the components, and the intendedservice.1.2 The tubing outside diameter size range is from 0.625 to2.0 in. 16 to 50 mm. The wall thickness shall be specified asa mi
5、nimum wall.1.3 Optional supplementary requirements may be providedand, when one or more of these are desired, each shall be sostated in the order.1.4 The values stated in either inch-pound units or SI unitsare to be regarded separately as standard. Within the text, theSI units are shown in brackets.
6、 The values stated in eachsystem may not be exact equivalents; therefore, each systemshall be used independently of the other. Combining valuesfrom the two systems may result in non-conformance with thestandard. The inch-pound units shall apply unless the “M”designation of this specification is spec

General Requirements4.1 Material furnished under this specification shall con-form to the applicable requirements of the current edition ofSpecification A450/A450M, unless otherwise provi

United States15.2 If a specific type of melting is required by the purchaser,it shall be as stated on the purchase order.5.3 The primary melting may incorporate separate degas-sing or refin
15、ing, and may be followed by secondary melting,such as electroslag or vacuum-arc remelting. If secondarymelting is employed, the heat shall be defined as all of theingots remelted from a single primary heat.5.4 Steel may be cast in ingots or may be strand cast. Whensteel of different grades is sequen
16、tially strand cast, identifica-tion of the resultant transition material is required. Theproducer shall remove the transition material by an establishedprocedure that positively separates the grades.5.5 Tubes shall be made by a seamless process and shall becold finished.5.5.1 Seamless tubing is a tu
17、bular product made without awelded seam. It is manufactured usually by hot working steeland, if necessary, by subsequently cold finishing the hot-worked tubular product to produce the desired shape,dimensions, and properties.5.6 The tubing shall be supplied in the cold finishedcondition followed by
18、a stress relief anneal (SRA).5.6.1 A light scale after the anneal is acceptable.5.6.2 For specification applications, the tubing may haveadditional outside surface grinding operations.6. Chemical Composition6.1 The steel shall conform to the requirements as tochemical composition prescribed in Table
19、 1.7. Heat Analysis7.1 An analysis of each heat of steel shall be made by thesteel manufacturer to determine the percentages of the ele-ments specified; if secondary melting processes are used, theheat analysis shall be obtained from one remelted ingot or theproduct of one remelted ingot of each pri
20、mary melt. The heatanalysis shall conform to the requirements specified, exceptthat where the heat identity has not been maintained or wherethe analysis is not sufficiently complete to permit conformanceto be determined, the chemical composition determined from aproduct analysis made by the tubular
21、manufacturer shallconform to the requirements specified for heat analysis. Whenrequested in the order or contract, a report of such analysesshall be furnished to the purchaser.8. Product Analysis8.1 Except as required by 7.1, a product analysis by themanufacturer shall be required when specified on
22、the purchaseorder.8.1.1 One product analysis per heat on either billet or tubeis required.8.2 Samples for chemical analysis shall be taken in accor-dance with Practice A751. The composition thus determinedshall correspond to the requirements in the applicable sectionof Tables 1 and 2 of this specifi
23、cation and shall be reported tothe purchaser or the purchasers representative.8.3 If the original test for check analysis fails, retests of twoadditional billets or tubes shall be made. Both retests for theelements in question shall meet the requirements of thespecification; otherwise all remaining
