Finished coatings on exterior surfaces of afilter, strainer, or separator shall be resistant to bilge cleaning solvents atmospheric corrosion, and finishedcoatings on interior surfaces

4、 shall be resistant to salt and petroleum products (see Salt Spray ExposureTest, Sec. 14). Finished coatings on exterior surfaces complying with the requirements of UL 1332,Standard For Safety For Organic Coatings for Steel Enclosures for Outdoor Use Electrical Equipment areconsidered to meet this r

5、equirement.RATIONALE FOR DECISION:This Certification Requirement Decision is intended to document the safety requirements for finishedcoatings since the current text does not specify the test criteria used to determine how finished coatingsare shown to be resistant to bilge cleaning solvents and pet

6、roleum products.Coatings on interior and exterior surfaces are evaluated in accordance with the Salt Spray Exposure Testin Sec. 14 while filled with gasoline and salt solutions and this reference is being added for clarity. As thereare no industry standard bilge cleaning solvents, and “homemade” sol

7、utions are used with unknowncontents, it was determined that it is not practical to test for all possible solvents and the resistance tobilge cleaning solvents is being deleted.Exterior coatings do need to demonstrate resistance to atmospheric corrosion and the UL 1332requirements are being added to

8、 clarify the requirements for alternate finished coatings. This provides analternate test to the Salt Spray Exposure Test, since filling the samples with the test liquid have no effecton the exterior coating.This decision reflects current engineering practice and takes into account differences in ex
