SCOPE:This SAE Aerospace Recommended Practice (ARP) recommends criteria for an Electronic Data Management System (EDMS) for use on the flight deck of transport a

The EDMS may be the primary, and in some cases sole, on board source of documentation and information for flight operations, engineering, aircraft maintenance, cabin services, and training. This document addresses flight operations applications only. It addresses the requirements for the fl

Development of ground support systems for EDMS will be a significant task, which must take account of the end-user information handing requirement

13、 operation will be achieved by a system which permits operation of an aircraft without the need for physical transportation of hard copy through the aircraft doors in either direction.PERMANENT DATA: Data which is valid for more than one flight.TEMPORARY DATA: Data which is valid for a single flight
14、.TRANSIENT DATA: Data which is valid for less than a complete flight.3. SYSTEM OBJECTIVES:3.1 EDMS shall be designed with the long-term vision of achieving “paperless“ (fully digital) operation with at least the same total level of safety as is associated with hard copy operation.3.2 EDMS should be
15、capable of a very high degree of flexibility in accepting and presenting customer airline data. Ease of customization to operators individual requirements shall be such as to permit interchange of aircraft between operators on a routine basis. Further information on the requirement for portability o
16、f system characteristics across multiple aircraft types and operators is contained in Appendix A.3.3 There should be no significant extra training associated with the system.SAE ARP4102/15 Revision A- 3 -3.4 The EDMS shall provide all the flexibility of current document based systems. The principles
17、 of classifying operational information described in this document shall be adopted to ensure that the system interface design does not inhibit this essential flexibility.“Paperless“ operation will be achieved by a system which permits operation of an aircraft without the need for physical transport
18、ation of hard copy documentation through the aircraft doors in either direction. The phrase “permits operation“ recognizes that there may be functions for which paper copy is still either desired by the airline, or required by external agencies, notwithstanding the fact that the data may be created
19、or stored in digital form. What specific functions these are shall be entirely determined by the operator and not be limitations imposed by the EDMS. The phrase “in either direction“ recognizes that small but significant items of data are generated on the aircraft itself in the form of reports, logs
20、, etc. The EDMS should accommodate such documents.3.5 Due to the evolutionary nature of EDMS, an interim objective of operation with “Less Paper“ is a necessity. In this evolving continuum, the EDMS should produce: a significant reduction in information support costs on aircraft types on which the s

However, operation with more than this minimum non-EDMS or hard copy information shall not be prevented by the system design. It should take the form of a statement of the information required to operate the aircraft at an adequate level of safety following the in-flight loss of info
