IntroductionAn investigation by CENELEC TC 61 has shown that all risks from products within the scope of thisstandard are fully covered by the Low Voltage Directive, 73/23/EEC. For products having mechanicalmoving parts, a risk assessment in accordanc

26、e with the Machinery Directive, 98/37/EC, has shown thatthe risks are mainly of electrical origin and consequently this directive is not applicable. However,therelevant essential safety requirements of the Machinery Directive are covered by this standard togetherwith the principal objectives of the

36、sons.This standardrecognizesthe internationally accepted levelof protection against hazardssuchas electrical, mechanical, thermal,fire and radiation of appliances when operated as in normal use taking intoaccount the manufacturers instructions. It also coversabnormalsituations thatcan be expectedinp

37、ractice and takes into account the way in whichelectromagnetic phenomena can affect the safe operation of appliances.This standard takes into accountthe requirements of IEC 60364 as far as possible sothatthere is compatibilitywith the wiring ruleswhen the appliance is connected to the supply mains.

38、However, national wiring rules may differ.If an appliance within the scope of this standard also incorporates functions that are coveredfar as is reasonable. If applicable, the influence of one function on the other is taken into account.An appliance that complieswith the text of this standard will

39、not necessarily be considered to comply with the safetyprinciples of the standard if, when examined and tested,itis found tohave other features that impair the level of safetycovered bythese requirements.An appliance employing materials or having forms of construction differing from those detailedin

45、 for household and similarpurposes, their rated voltage being not more than 250 V forsingle-phase appliances and480 V forother appliances.Appliances not intended fornormalhousehold use but which nevertheless may be a source ofdanger to the public, such as appliancesintended to be used by laymen insh

46、ops, in lightindustry and on farms, are within the scope ofthis standard.NOTE 101 Examples of appliances within the scope of this standard are ironing presses for one-person operation; mangles; rotary ironers for one-person operation; trouser presses .As far as ispracticable, thisstandard deals wi t

47、h the commonhazards presented byappliances that are encountered by all persons in and around the home.
