、 in this package) Foreword This British Standard was prepared under the direction of the Elements and Components in Building Standards Committee to provide a range of coordinated colours for cladding. The standard is applicable to aluminium, asbestos-cement, glass, plastics, and steel cladding. It i
、s hoped that it will also provide a basis for the coordination of colours of cladding in other materials such as concrete, brick, stone, and clay tiles. The colours in this standard, numbering thirty-eight, and including black and white, have been selected from BS 5252, which has been designed to im
、plement colour coordination in the building industry, namely: (a) to bring the colours of building materials and finishes into a systematic relationship; (b) to combine economy in the number of colours used with sufficient flexibility to meet design and technical requirements. *Used with a back-up w

、rt 3 : Section 3.1 1 : 1978. BS 5252 relates the colours in terms of selected steps in the visual attributes of hue, greyness and weight. Hue is the attribute of redness, yellowness, blueness, etc. The framework has twelve horizontal hue rows, plus a further row for neutral colours (.e. without hue)
、, numbered and named as follows. 0% red-purple 16 blue-green Q4 red 18 blue 86 yellow-red 20 purple-blue O8 yellowred 22 violet 10 yellow 24 purple 12 green-yellow 14 green 80 neutral Greyness is the estimated grey content of colours. The framework divides the colours into five groups, lettered A to
、 E, representing steps of diminishing greyness as follows. GroupA grey Group I3 nearly grey Group C greyhlear Group D nearly clear Group E clear Weight is a subjective term for lightness modified as necessary to produce colours of the same character in different hues. The framework provides for up t
、o eight vertical columns of colours of equal weight in each greyness group ranging from lightest on the left of the group to darkest or heaviest on the right. The columns are numbered in sequence from the left-hand column of A group (01) to the right-hand column of E group (58). The numbering is not
、 regular across the eight columns in each group because some column numbers were established as standard in BS 4800. 4. Identification of coiours Each colour is identified by a three-part code taken from BS 5252 and these codes are to be used to identify the colours for purposes of specifying or ord

(a) The first part of the identification code signifies hue and consists of a NUMBER with two numerals. (Neutral colours are designated OO.) (b) The second part signi

Matching The colsur patterns in the composite card included in BS 5252 are shown in semigloss finish for visual indication of the colour in daylight. For matching purposes a fan contai
、ning larger patches of all colours in that standard is available from BSI in BS 5252F. When using the larger patches it should be borne in mind that the relative appearance of surface colours is affected by the character of the light in which they are compared. Thus close matches under one illuminan
、t may not be close under others, a phenomenon resulting from pigment differences and known as metamerism. It is recommended therefore that comparisons should be made under good diffuse daylight or under an illuminant which meets the requirements of BS 950 : Part I. Where such factors as surface text
