Scope1.1 This specification covers the design, materials, and

3、construction of strainer boxes for use in shipsbilges and othersuch tank locations that require trash protection for suctionpipes and pumps.1.2 This specification covers pipe sizes from NPS 112through NPS 16 (see Note 1).NOTE 1The dimensionless designator NPS (nominal pipe size) hasbeen substituted

Classification3.1 This specification covers two types of strainer boxes.3.1.1 Type 1Strainer boxes with pipe clamp centered onthe top of the strainer box (see Fig. 1).3.1.2 Type 2Strainer boxes with the pipe clamp off centerin

Ordering Information4.1 Ordering information required is as follows.4.1.1 ASTM specification and year of issue.4.1.2 Type.4.1.3 Size (suction pipe NPS).4.1.4 Dimensions G and H (Type 2 only).4.1.5 Number of each type and size.5. Materials and Manufacture5

9、.1 For information on materials, see Table 1.5.2 Welding shall be in accordance with AWS D1.3.5.3 Perforated sheet metal shall have38-in. diameter holeson staggered12-in. centers, 51 % open area.6. 10、2 Type 2See Table 3.7. Workmanship, Finish, and Appearance7.1 Strainer boxes shall be hot galvanized in accordancewith Specification A123/A123M after fabrication. The galva-nizing shall be a minimum of 2 mils thick.7.2 Strainer boxes shall be free of defects, burrs, and sharpedges.1This specificatio

15、allast and bilge spaces.8.2 Minimum suction pipe or tank bottom clearances areindicated in Column “F” in Table 2 and Table 3. Dimensioncallout is based on12 the tailpipe nominal pipe size.8.3 Tank structure and sloping bottom structure may ob-scure the above clearance down to the limit of the result

16、ingperiphery clear area, being 1.5 the inside diameter of thetailpipe. Structure outside the limit of12 the pipe NPS need notbe considered as obstructing flow.9.
