Terminology3.1 Definitions of Terms Specific to This Standard:3.1.1 cleaning ability, nthe potential of a vacuum cleanerto remove dirt from a surface (sometimes referred to in theindustry as cleanability, dry).3.1.2 model, nthe designation of a group of vacuumclean
10、ers having identical, mechanical and electrical construc-tion with only cosmetic or nonfunctional differences.3.1.3 population, nthe total of all units of a particularmodel vacuum cleaner being tested.3.1.4 sample, na group of vacuum cleaners taken from alarge collection of vacuum cleaners of one pa
11、rticular model,which serves to provide information that may be used as a basisfor making a decision concerning the larger collection.3.1.5 test run, nthe definitive procedure that produces asingular measured result.3.1.6 test unit, na single vacuum cleaner of the modelbeing tested.4. Significance an
12、d Use4.1 This test method provides a laboratory test for determin-ing the relative carpet dirt removal effectiveness of residentialcentral vacuum cleaning systems when tested under standardconditions and on representative types of carpets.4.2 This laboratory test method may not give a representa-tio
13、n of carpet embedded dirt cleaning effectiveness in thehome.4.3 In order to provide a uniform basis for measuringperformance as described in 1.2, standardized test carpets andstandardized test dirt are employed in this procedure.1This test method is under the jurisdiction ofASTM Committee F11 on Vac

Apparatus5.1 Weighing Scale3(for weighing carpets; see 9.1.1.5 and9.4.5)The scale must be accurate to 0.035 oz (1 g) and havea weighing capacity of at least 15 lb (6.82 k
17、g).5.2 Weighing Scale4(for weighing test dirt and non-disposable dirt receptacles; see 9.2.1.2 and 9.4.12)The scalemust be accurate to 0.0035 oz (0.10 g) and have a weighingcapacity of at least 1.1 lb (500 g).5.3 Stopwatch with a second hand, or other type of equip-ment capable of establishing the s
18、pecified rate of movementand total cycle time.5.4 Voltmeter, to measure input volts to the cleaning systemto provide measurements accurate to within 61%.5.5 Voltage Regulator System, to control the input voltage tothe vacuum cleaner. The regulator shall be capable of main-taining the vacuum cleaners
19、 rated voltage 61 % and ratedfrequency having a wave form that is essentially sinusoidalwith 3 % max harmonic distortion for the duration of the test.5.6 Dirt Embedment Tool, with the roller locked (see Fig. 1).5.7 Dirt DispenserDispensing system that provides theoperator with a method to distribute
20、 the test dirt uniformly onthe carpet test area.5.8 Carpet Conditioning Equipment, to support the testcarpet during new carpet conditioning and the removal ofresidual dirt from the test carpet before each test run (Fig. 2).5.9 Rotating Agitator Conditioning Vacuum Cleaner/Equipment, for conditioning
21、 new test carpets and removingresidual dirt from the test carpet before each test run. Thiscannot be the unit being tested.NOTE 1Automated methods for spreading the test dirt, embedding thetest dirt, and cleaning and reconditioning the test carpets are acceptable ifthey do not change the results of
22、this test method.5.10 Temperature and Humidity Indicators, to provide tem-perature measurements accurate to within 61F (612 C) andhumidity measurements accurate to within 62 % relativehumidity.5.11 Supporting SurfaceA flat surface consisting of apiece of34-in. (19-mm) thick exterior-grade plywood wi
23、th the“A” surface upward to support the test carpet and pad.
