Scope1.1 The document provides measurement guidance to assistin fitting ballistic-resistant body armor and stab-resistant bodyarmor covering the torso. Proper meas
3、urement is necessary toobtain sufficient coverage of the torso and vital organs whileallowing the range of motion required for officer operations.1.2 This document addresses measurements for concealable(normal duty) and tactical (special duty) armor for both maleand female wearers.1.3 This standard
4、does not address area of coverage (that is,how much of the torso is covered by the vest).1.4 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regardedas standard. No other units of measurement are included in thisstandard.1.5 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns, if any

It is theresponsibility of the user of this standard to establish appro-priate safety and health practices and determine the applica-bility of regulatory limitations prior to use. Terminology3.1 Definitions:3.1.1 acronimion, nthat part of the shoulder blade locatedat the end o
7、f the spine, which articulates with the collarbone(that is, clavicle). (Terminology D5219.) See Fig. 1.3.1.2 apex, nthe greatest protrusion of the breast as seenfrom the side (Terminology D5219). If the officer has a large abdomen or the duty beltangles down in the front, or both, the measurement shouldextend to a horizontal plane set at the top of the duty belt in theback; otherwise, when the front panel is made, it may extendtoo low on the wearer. 10、suprasternalnotch, and refer to Fig. 5 showing the center front length to beltmeasurement.3.1.6 cervicale, nthe prominent point of the seventh orlowest neck vertebra at the back of the torso (TerminologyD5219). See Fig. 4 showing the location of the clavicle.3.1.9 duty belt, na belt worn around the waist by lawenforcement personnel to which essential equipment is at-tached (NIJ Standard-0116.00).3.1.10 front break-po
13、int, nthe location on the front of thetorso where the arm separates from the torso (TerminologyD5219). 21、 Significance and Use4.1 Having body armor that fits well and is comfortablebegins with appropriate and accurate measurements. Armorsuppliers typically have trained representatives that conductproper measurement and fitting, but not all armor retailers havesuch trained individuals. This standard wil
22、l facilitate consis-tency of measurement across the body armor industry and willhelp wearers understand proper measurement.5. Procedure5.1 Preparation for Measuring the Wearer5.1.1 The type of clothing worn during measuring caninfluence the accuracy of the measurements, and it is recom-mended that t
23、he following clothing and equipment be wornduring measuring:5.1.1.1 Uniformed officers should wear a T-shirt, duty pants,duty belt with gear installed (for example, weapon, magazinepouch, restraints), inner belt (if normally worn), and keeperswhen being measured. Females need to wear the type of bra
24、that they usually wear on duty.5.1.1.2 Non-uniformed personnel (for example, specialagents, detectives) should wear a T-shirt, pants, and a belt thatare representative of what is worn on duty. Females need towear the type of bra that they usually wear on duty.5.1.2 The position of the duty belt on t
