Scope1.1 The document provides measurement guidance to assistin fitting ballistic-resistant body armor and stab-resistant bodyarmor covering the torso. Proper meas

3、urement is necessary toobtain sufficient coverage of the torso and vital organs whileallowing the range of motion required for officer operations.1.2 This document addresses measurements for concealable(normal duty) and tactical (special duty) armor for both maleand female wearers.1.3 This standard

4、does not address area of coverage (that is,how much of the torso is covered by the vest).1.4 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regardedas standard. No other units of measurement are included in thisstandard.1.5 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns, if any

Terminology3.1 Definitions:3.1.1 acronimion, nthat part of the shoulder blade locatedat the end o

21、 Significance and Use4.1 Having body armor that fits well and is comfortablebegins with appropriate and accurate measurements. Armorsuppliers typically have trained representatives that conductproper measurement and fitting, but not all armor retailers havesuch trained individuals. This standard wil

22、l facilitate consis-tency of measurement across the body armor industry and willhelp wearers understand proper measurement.5. Procedure5.1 Preparation for Measuring the Wearer5.1.1 The type of clothing worn during measuring caninfluence the accuracy of the measurements, and it is recom-mended that t

23、he following clothing and equipment be wornduring measuring:5.1.1.1 Uniformed officers should wear a T-shirt, duty pants,duty belt with gear installed (for example, weapon, magazinepouch, restraints), inner belt (if normally worn), and keeperswhen being measured. Females need to wear the type of bra

24、that they usually wear on duty.5.1.1.2 Non-uniformed personnel (for example, specialagents, detectives) should wear a T-shirt, pants, and a belt thatare representative of what is worn on duty. Females need towear the type of bra that they usually wear on duty.5.1.2 The position of the duty belt on t

25、he wearer should beas is typical, and the position should not be artificially adjusted.5.1.3 All linear and circumferential measurements shall betaken to the nearest in., except for height which shall be tothe nearest inch.5.1.4 For all measurements requiring the wearer to be in astanding position,

26、except upper-front chest width, the wearershall stand with feet together facing forward, arms relaxeddown at the sides, and looking straight ahead. 27、ms shall be extended in front of the body andparallel to each other and the floor.5.1.5 For all measurements requiring the wearer to be in aseated position, the wearer shall sit in a natural comfortableposition, facing forward, and looking straight ahead. Thewearer shall not sit up straight in an un

28、natural position.5.2 Equipment5.2.1 TapeThe tape used shall be flexible and non-stretchable, have a length of at least 60 in., and providemeasurements in English units of at least in. An anthropo-metric tape, such as Lafayette Instrument model J00305 orequivalent, is recommended, but a tailors tape

29、may also beused. Prior to using any flexible tape for makingmeasurements, it should be verified to be accurate and notstretched by comparing it to a non-stretchable tape, such as aLufkin model L610 steel tape or equivalent.5.2.2 ScaleAbathroom scale shall be used for weighing, ifweight is unknown, a

30、nd the scale shall have the capability to bezeroed prior to weighing, shall provide weight in units ofpounds, shall indicate weight to at least the nearest pound, andshall have weight capacity appropriate for the individual beingweighed. If better quality than a bathroom scale is available,such as a

31、 medical or fitness scale, it is acceptable to use sucha scale for measurements, given that the other requirements ofthis section are met.5.2.3 Chair for Seated Position MeasurementsThe recom-mended chair shall be a rigid, non-adjustable chair, having aback and a flat, rigid seat, and resting on fla

32、t surface. The chairshould either have no arm rests, or the individual beingmeasured should not place his or her arms on the arm rests.5.3 Measuring the Wearer and Recording the Measure-ments5.3.1 HeightThe measurer shall record the wearers heightin feet and inches (for example, 6 ft., 1 in.) either

33、 by having thewearer specify his or her known height or measuring theheight. If measuring height, have the wearer stand with his orher back against a wall, without shoes and looking straightahead. The measurer shall mark on the wall the level of the topof subjects head and measure the vertical dista

34、nce from thestanding surface to the mark.5.3.2 WeightThe measurer shall record the wearersweight in pounds and to the nearest pound (for example, 125lbs) either by having the wearer specify his or her knownweight or weighing the wearer. If weighing the wearer, ensurethat the scale is set to zero ini

35、tially, and record the weight to thenearest pound. If the wearer is a uniformed officer and is beingweighed, ensure that the officer removes the duty belt duringweighing.5.3.3 Chest/Bust GirthWith the wearers arms raisedslightly away from the sides, the measurer shall wrap the tapearound the torso h

36、orizontally under the arms and across thefullest part of the chest/bust, at the apex in front and includingthe lower portion of the shoulder blades in the back. Once thetape is in place, the wearer shall lower the arms to his or hersides, and the measurement shall be taken, ensuring that thetape is

37、snug around the torso.NOTE 1If the measurement is taken while the wearers arms areraised, there will bea1to2in.difference as compared to the measurementtaken with the arms lowered. This is very important. Refer to Fig. 6.5.3.4 Under-Bust GirthWith the wearers arms raisedslightly away from the sides,

Refer to Fig. 6.5.3.5 Upper-Front Chest WidthWith the wearers armsextended in front of the body and parallel to each other and tothe floor, the measurer shall measure the horizontal distanceacross the front of the chest at the front break-point level. 40、e wearer standing, the measurershall locate and measure the largest horizontal circumferenceof the wearers torso beneath the under-bust girth and abovethe wearers duty belt. The measurement should be taken at thehorizontal plane set at the top of the duty belt in the back.5.3.7 Front Length to BeltS

41、tandingThe measurer shalltake at least one front length to belt measurement, with thewearer standing, and shall follow the appropriate steps below:Center Front Length to Belt Standing. The measurershall measure vertically, following the body contour, from thebottom of the wearers suprasternal notch

42、to the top of the dutybelt in front. If the wearer has a large abdomen or the duty beltangles down in the front, or both, the measurement shall betaken from the bottom of the wearers suprasternal notch to ahorizontal plane set at the top of the duty belt in the back. 43、gth to Belt Standing. The measurershall measure from the top of the wearers clavicle to the top ofthe duty belt over the bust point. This vertical distance shall berecorded in two measurements: (1) from the top of clavicle tothe bust point, following the body contour, and (2) from thebust point to t

44、he top of duty belt. 45、3.8 Front Length to Belt SeatedThe measurer shalltake at least one front length to belt measurement, with thewearer seated, and shall follow the appropriate steps below:Center Front Length to Belt Seated The wearer shallbe seated during this measurement. The measurer shall mea-sure vertically, follo

46、wing the body contour, from the bottom ofthe wearers suprasternal notch to the top of the duty belt infront. If the wearer has a large abdomen or the duty belt anglesdown in the front, or both, the measurement shall be taken fromthe bottom of the wearers suprasternal notch to a horizontalplane set a

47、t the top of the duty belt in the back. Refer to Fig.5.Lateral Front Length to Belt Seated The wearershall be seated during this measurement. The measurer shallmeasure from the top of the wearers clavicle to the top of theduty belt over the bust point. This vertical distance shall berecorded in two

48、measurements: (1) from the top of clavicle tothe bust point, following the body contour, and (2) from thebust point to the top of duty belt. If the wearer has a largeabdomen or the duty belt angles down in the front, or both, themeasurement shall be taken from the top of the wearersclavicle, over th

49、e bust point, to a horizontal plane set at the topof the duty belt in the back. Refer to Fig. 9.5.3.9 Center Back Length to BeltThe measurer shallmeasure the vertical distance from the wearers cervicale to thetop of the duty belt in the back.5.3.10 Front Chest DepthThe measurer shall measure thehorizontal distance between the right bust apex and a frontalplane through a point halfway between the front break-pointand the back break-point on the right side.
