Results of the standard system ina specific marine environment are included to assist in inter-preting results (s
10、ee Annex A2).4.2 Antifouling systems providing positive comparisonswith the standard system should be considered acceptable foruse in protecting underwater marine structures.4.3 The degree and type of fouling will vary depending onthe environment. Hence, differences in geographic location oftest sit
11、es, in time of year when panels are exposed, and inweather conditions from 1 year to the next can affect results.Therefore, a fouling census on a nontoxic surface is taken. 15、4).5. Apparatus5.1 Blast Cleaning Apparatus capable of preparing panelsin compliance with 8.1.5.2 Application Equipment consisting of brush, roller, con-ventional spray, or airless spray. Usually the equipment isdictated by the physical properties of the coating and the filmthickness desired.5.3 Exp
16、osure Rack to provide firm positioning of thespecimen panels such that they are held vertically in place inspite of the current and are electrically insulated from metalliccontact with the rack or other panels. The rack should bepositioned such that the prevailing tidal currents will moveparallel to
17、 the panel face, and the panels will be immersed to adepth of a minimum of 0.3 m (1 ft) and a maximum of3m(10ft). In a rack where the panels are stacked front to back, theyshould be spaced at least 60 mm (212 in.) apart, with the twoend positions filled with blank panels. In a rack where thepanels a
18、re mounted side by side, the distance between adjacentpanels should be a minimum 1.5 mm (12 in.).6. Materials6.1 Test PanelThe substrate for the standard antifoulingcoating system shall be medium low-carbon steel plate perSpecification A 569/A 569M,53 mm thick by 150 to 250 mmby 250 to 300 mm (18 in
19、. thick by 6 to 10 by 10 to 12 in.) witha minimum area per side of 465 cm27(2in.2). A 6-mm (14-in.)diameter hole,12 to 1 in. from the top and centered shall bedrilled for holding the panel while handling and painting. Thetest coating system shall be applied to that substrate for whichit is designed
20、provided there is a minimum area per side of 466cm2(72 in.2).6.2 Standard Coating SystemThe standard antifoulingcoating system shall consist of:6.2.1 Green pretreatment coating conforming to U.S. Mili-tary Specification MIL-P-15328B (Formula 117), B revisiononly.6.2.2 Vinyl red lead primer conformin
21、g to U.S. MilitarySpecification MIL-P-15929C (Formula 119), C revision only.6.2.3 Vinyl antifouling coating conforming to U.S. MilitarySpecification MIL-P-15931B (Formula 121/63), B revisiononly.6.3 Test Coating SystemThe test antifouling coating maybe applied to the standard primer system, or to an
22、y othersuitable anticorrosive primer system.7. Safety Precautions7.1 WarningAntifouling paints contain toxic materialsthat could cause skin and eye irritation on contact and adversephysiological effects if ingested or inhaled. In the preparationof panels and the application of various types of antif
23、oulingpaints the use of appropriate protective clothing and equipmentis required consistent with local, state, and federal governmentregulations, and recognized industrial and technical standards.Spills, overspray, and unused material should not be flusheddown the drain, but should be disposed of as
24、 hazardous waste.8. Procedure8.1 Abrasive blast the required number of panels to near-white metal (Sa 212 of Method D 2200) to obtain a profile of25 to 38 m (1 to 1.5 mils).NOTE 2A profile of 25 to 38 m (1 to 1.5 mils) can be obtained withthe following parameters: (1) Type and size of grit, No. 46 (
