Terminology3.1 Definition:3.1.1 proximate analysis of coal and cokean assay of themoisture, ash, volatile matter, and fixed carbon as determinedby prescribed methods. Other constituents such as

8、sulfur andphosphorus are not included.4. Significance and Use4.1 Test methods, as herein described, can be used toestablish the rank of coals, show the ratio of combustible toincombustible constituents, provide the basis for buying andselling, and evaluate for beneficiation or for other purposes.5.

9、Sampling5.1 Coal sample collection shall be in accordance thesampling section of Classification D 388, if the proximateanalysis is to be used for classification of coal by rank. Otherwise, coak sample collection shall be done in accordance withany of the following Guides or Practices as appropriate:

10、Guide D 6609, Practice D 4596, Practice D 4916, PracticeD 5192, and Practice D 6883. In all other cases, samplecollection shall be in accordance with Practice D 2234/D 2234M.5.2 Coke sampling shall be done in accordance with Prac-tice D 346.6. Analysis Sample6.1 For coal, sample preparations shall b

11、e in accordancewith Practices D 2013 or D 7256/D 7256M. The analysissample shall be the material pulverized to pass a 250-m (No.60 sieve in accordance with Practice D 2013.6.2 For coke, sample preparations shall be in accordancewith Practice D 346.7.
