Scope1.1 This classification defines aggregate size desi

3、gnationsand ranges in mechanical analyses for standard sizes of coarseaggregate and screenings for use in the construction andmaintenance of various types of highways and bridges.1.2 With regard to sieve sizes and the size of aggregate asdetermined by the use of testing sieves, the values in inch-po

6、icance and Use3.1 Some contract documents specify certain aggregatesizes for specific uses or may suggest one or more of thesesizes as appropriate for the preparation of various end-productmixtures. In some cases, closer limits on variability of theaggregate grading are required.4. Manufacture4.1 Th

7、e standard sizes of aggregate described in this clas-sification are manufactured by means of any suitable processused to separate raw material into the desired size ranges.Production of standard sizes by blending two or more differentcomponents is permitted.5. Standard Sizes5.1 Standard sizes of coa

8、rse aggregate shall comply with thesizes given in Table 1. All sizes shall be determined by meansof laboratory sieves having square openings and conforming toSpecification E 11.6. Basis of Classification6.1 Classification is based upon the size number and sizeranges shown in Table 1 with the aggrega

9、te sampled inaccordance with Practice D 75 and tested for grading by TestMethod C 136.1This classification is under the jurisdiction of ASTM Committee D04 on Roadand Paving Materials and is the direct responsibility of Subcommittee D04.50 onAggregate Specifications.Current edition approved Dec. 1, 2
