Scope1.1 This practice covers material, workmanship, and con-struction procedures for applying surface bonded mortar toboth side

9、Storage3.1 Deliver and store surface bonding mortar in originalcontainers off the ground to prevent contact with water. Protectfrom rain with suitable covering.3.2 Store concrete masonry units off the ground to preventcontamination by mud, dust, and materials likely to causestaining or other defects
10、, and protect from rain.4. Materials and Manufacture4.1 Concrete masonry units shall be clean and dry, meetingthe requirements of Type I, moisture-controlled units, of theapplicable ASTM specification (Specifications C 55, C 90,C 129, and C 145). The surface to receive surface bondingmortar shall be
11、 free of paint, oil, efflorescence, or foreignmaterials that interfere with bonding.4.2 Mortar shall be mixed in accordance with the proportionspecification of Specification C 270 and shall be selected onthe basis of Appendix X1 of Specification C 270.4.3 Surface bonding mortar shall meet the requir
12、ements ofSpecification C 887. If the dry mix contains hard lumps, it shallnot be used.4.4 Shims shall be corrosion-resistant metal or plastic witha minimum compressive strength of 2000 psi (13.8 MPa), orsteel protected from corrosion by a coating of zinc at least 0.8oz/ft2(2.4 gm/mm2), or by a coati
13、ng of cadmium or zinc ofequivalent corrosion resistance.5. 17、 ft (3.0 m) occurs within one course. Levelingcourses are usually located on the first course above thefoundation, because footings are not normally placed in a levelcondition, and at each floor level.5.2 When mortar or surface bonding mortar is used aleveling course, concrete masonry units shall be
18、 set in a fullbed of mortar, laid to a line with the top surface level, asdefined in 5.1, and butted together with no mortar in the headjoints. Bed joints shall be struck flush. If the cores are to begrouted, no mortar shall be placed in the space to receive grout.5.3 Allow mortar to set sufficientl
19、y so no movement breaksthe bond while dry stacking units in subsequent courses.6. Dry-Stacking Concrete Masonry Units6.1 Courses of concrete masonry units between the levelingcourses shall be placed without mortar on the bed or headjoints. Place units in running bond. Remove burrs and buttblocks tig
20、htly.6.2 Use shims, mortar, or surface bonding mortar to plumband level individual units when necessary.6.3 Check the wall every fourth course to be certain it isplumb and level. If any course is out of level by more than12in. (12.7 mm) in 10 ft (3.0 m) another leveling course shall bebuilt.6.4 Cut
