Significance and Use5.1 In the manufacture of porcelain enameled ware, sheetsteel is subjected to forming operations and subsequently tofiring of the enamel at temperatures, typically, of 1400 to

7、1550F (760 to 844C). Some steels used for porcelainenameling are subject to grain growth in critically strainedareas resulting in loss of strength.5.2 This may lead to easy deformation of the steel anddamage to the porcelain enamel coating.5.3 This test method may be correlated with transit or usete

8、sts to evaluate the suitability of steel for porcelain enameledware.6. Apparatus6.1 Shear for cutting blanks.6.2 Equipment for cutting or machining tension specimens.6.3 Gage, 2-in. (50.8-mm), for marking tension specimens.6.4 Tension-Testing Equipment, as described in Test Meth-ods and Definitions

Reagents and Materials7.1 Sheet Steel, sufficient in size to provide the test speci

10、-men, described in Section 8.7.2 Solvent, such as acetone or isopropyl alcohol.7.3 Hydrochloric Acid (1+1)Dilute 1 volume of concen-trated hydrochloric acid (HCl, sp gr 1.19) with 1 volume ofwater.8. Sampling8.1 Obtain ten test samples, each approximately 1 by 9 in.(25 by 229 mm), from within the qu

11、arter lines of the sheetsample, the long dimension being in the direction of rolling.9. Maintain a minimum of 1 in.(25.4 mm) of length between the grips of the tension-testingmachine and the gage marks.9.3 Elongate duplicate test samples to nominal strain levelsof 0, 8, 12, 16, and 20 %. Measure the elongation withextensome

15、ters, dividers, or other means.9.4 Remove the test samples from the tension machine andmeasure actual strain to the nearest 0.01 in. (0.25 mm).9.5 Clean the strained test samples with the solvent and firein air atmosphere at 1450 6 10F (788 6 5C) for 4 min. Testsamples may be hung from hooks or supp

16、orted on edge spaced1 in. (25.4 mm) apart (if the latter, be sure to support in amanner to prevent sagging during firing). The test samplesshould reach the firing temperature within 2.0 6 0.5 min.9.6 Remove the samples from the furnace and air cool.9.7 Descale the fired samples in a HCl (1+1) soluti

17、oncontaining a few drops of an inhibitor, such as formaldehyde,at a temperature of 70 to 100F (21 to 38C). Promptly rinsethe test samples and dry.9.8 Machine the descaled test samples to make standardrectangular tension tests specimens in accordance with TestMethods and Definitions A 370. The specim

18、ens shall have aminimum length of 8 in. (204 mm) and the sides of the reducedsection shall be parallel.9.9 Measure the thickness and width of each specimen, andtest for yield strength as described in Test Methods E8at acrosshead speed of 0.10 in. (2.5 mm)/min. Determine the yieldstrength at the lowe

19、r point or by the 0.5 % extension underload.10. Report10.1 Report the yield strengths determined for the duplicatespecimens at each of the five strain levels.10.2 Report the actual strain imparted to each specimen.11. Precision and Bias11.1 The precision and bias of yield strength and strain inthis

20、test method would be identical to the precision and bias ofTest Methods E8.
