Scope1.1 This p
3、ractice covers the installation of suspension sys-tems for acoustical tile and lay-in panels. It is applicable tocontractors whose services are utilized for installing acousticalceilings and to other trades if their activities are responsible forinterference with ceiling components or performance as
4、 de-fined in this recommended practice.1.2 While the practices described in this document haveequal application to rated fire-resistive suspension systems,additional requirements may have been imposed to obtain thefire endurance classification of particular floor-ceiling or roof-ceiling assemblies.
5、These details should be obtained from themanufacturers.1.3 Similarly, additional detailing may be necessary to meetsound attenuation requirements when ceiling plenums extendover contiguous rooms. These, too, should be obtained fromthe manufacturer of the acoustical material employed.1.4 The values s
6、tated in either inch-pound units or SI unitsare to be regarded as the standard. Within the text, the SI unitsare shown in brackets. The values stated in each system are notexact equivalents; therefore, each system must be used inde-pendently of the other. Combining values fro the two systemsmay resu
7、lt in nonconformance with the specification.1.5 While many of the practices described in this practicehave application to the installation of metal suspension systemsin exterior environments, the specific design of exterior ceilinginstallations requires the review and approval of the architector eng
8、ineer, or both, who are responsible for the constructionof the building or modifications to an existing building. Whilerecommendations from the manufacturer should be solicited, itremains the final responsibility of the architect/engineer toensure proper application of the materials in question.1.6

It is the responsibilityof the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety andhealth practices and determine the applicability of regulatorylimitations prior to use.2. Installation of Componen
10、ts2.1 Hangers:2.1.1 Where acoustical ceilings are suspended from a struc-ture of wood construction, attach hangers with suitable me-chanical devices either to the bottom edge of the wood joists orto the vertical face of the wood joists near the bottom edge.Holding power tests certified by the manufa
11、cturer must beavailable on request for bottom edge attachment devices.2.1.2 Where acoustical ceilings are suspended from a struc-ture of concrete construction, mount hangers using cast-in-place hanger wires, hanger inserts, or other hanger attachmentdevices whose suitability has been demonstrated by
12、 standardconstruction practice or by certified test data.2.1.3 Space hangers for carrying channels or main runners 4ft 0 in. 1200 mm on centers. If local situations allow greatercenter distances between hangers, reduce the load-carryingcapacity of the ceiling suspension system commensurate withthe a
13、ctual center-to-center hanger distances used. If localsituations allow lesser center distances between hangers, in-crease the load-carrying capacity of the ceiling suspensionsystem commensurate with the actual center-to-center hangerdistances used.2.1.4 Each suspension wire shall not hang more than
14、one insix out of plumb unless a countersloping wire or horizontalbracing is provided. See Fig. 1 for allowable counterslopingmethods. Suspension wires should not press against ducts orpipes.2.1.5 Hangers formed from galvanized sheet metal stockshall be suitable for suspending carrying channels or ma
15、inrunners from an existing structure provided that the hangers donot yield, twist, or undergo other objectionable movement.2.1.6 Wire hangers for suspending carrying channels ormain runners from an existing structure shall be prepared froma minimum of No. 12-gage 2.70 mm galvanized, soft-annealed, m

18、Such attachment devices shall have certifiedload test data from an independent test laboratory and shall becapable of carrying five times the design load.2.2 Carrying Channels:2.2.1 Install the carrying channels so that they are all levelto within18 in. in 12 ft 3.2 mm in 3600 mm.2.2.2 Perform level
19、ing with the supporting hangers taut toprevent any subsequent downward movement of the carryingchannels when the ceiling loads are imposed.2.2.3 Local kinks or bends shall not be made in hanger wiresas a means of leveling carrying channels.2.2.4 In installations where hanger wires are wrappedaround
20、carrying channels, the wire loops shall be tightlyformed to prevent any vertical movement or rotation of themember within the loop.2.3 Main Runners:2.3.1 Install main runners so that they are all level to within14 in. in 10 ft 6 mm in 3000 mm. Determine evaluation oflevelness from measurements taken
21、 below hanger points.
