Scope1.1 This p

    3、ractice covers the installation of suspension sys-tems for acoustical tile and lay-in panels. It is applicable tocontractors whose services are utilized for installing acousticalceilings and to other trades if their activities are responsible forinterference with ceiling components or performance as

    4、 de-fined in this recommended practice.1.2 While the practices described in this document haveequal application to rated fire-resistive suspension systems,additional requirements may have been imposed to obtain thefire endurance classification of particular floor-ceiling or roof-ceiling assemblies.

    5、These details should be obtained from themanufacturers.1.3 Similarly, additional detailing may be necessary to meetsound attenuation requirements when ceiling plenums extendover contiguous rooms. These, too, should be obtained fromthe manufacturer of the acoustical material employed.1.4 The values s

    6、tated in either inch-pound units or SI unitsare to be regarded as the standard. Within the text, the SI unitsare shown in brackets. The values stated in each system are notexact equivalents; therefore, each system must be used inde-pendently of the other. Combining values fro the two systemsmay resu

    7、lt in nonconformance with the specification.1.5 While many of the practices described in this practicehave application to the installation of metal suspension systemsin exterior environments, the specific design of exterior ceilinginstallations requires the review and approval of the architector eng

    8、ineer, or both, who are responsible for the constructionof the building or modifications to an existing building. Whilerecommendations from the manufacturer should be solicited, itremains the final responsibility of the architect/engineer toensure proper application of the materials in question.1.6

    9、This standard does not purport to address of the safetyconcerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibilityof the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety andhealth practices and determine the applicability of regulatorylimitations prior to use.2. Installation of Componen

    10、ts2.1 Hangers:2.1.1 Where acoustical ceilings are suspended from a struc-ture of wood construction, attach hangers with suitable me-chanical devices either to the bottom edge of the wood joists orto the vertical face of the wood joists near the bottom edge.Holding power tests certified by the manufa

    11、cturer must beavailable on request for bottom edge attachment devices.2.1.2 Where acoustical ceilings are suspended from a struc-ture of concrete construction, mount hangers using cast-in-place hanger wires, hanger inserts, or other hanger attachmentdevices whose suitability has been demonstrated by

    12、 standardconstruction practice or by certified test data.2.1.3 Space hangers for carrying channels or main runners 4ft 0 in. 1200 mm on centers. If local situations allow greatercenter distances between hangers, reduce the load-carryingcapacity of the ceiling suspension system commensurate withthe a

    13、ctual center-to-center hanger distances used. If localsituations allow lesser center distances between hangers, in-crease the load-carrying capacity of the ceiling suspensionsystem commensurate with the actual center-to-center hangerdistances used.2.1.4 Each suspension wire shall not hang more than

    14、one insix out of plumb unless a countersloping wire or horizontalbracing is provided. See Fig. 1 for allowable counterslopingmethods. Suspension wires should not press against ducts orpipes.2.1.5 Hangers formed from galvanized sheet metal stockshall be suitable for suspending carrying channels or ma

    15、inrunners from an existing structure provided that the hangers donot yield, twist, or undergo other objectionable movement.2.1.6 Wire hangers for suspending carrying channels ormain runners from an existing structure shall be prepared froma minimum of No. 12-gage 2.70 mm galvanized, soft-annealed, m

    18、Such attachment devices shall have certifiedload test data from an independent test laboratory and shall becapable of carrying five times the design load.2.2 Carrying Channels:2.2.1 Install the carrying channels so that they are all levelto within18 in. in 12 ft 3.2 mm in 3600 mm.2.2.2 Perform level

    19、ing with the supporting hangers taut toprevent any subsequent downward movement of the carryingchannels when the ceiling loads are imposed.2.2.3 Local kinks or bends shall not be made in hanger wiresas a means of leveling carrying channels.2.2.4 In installations where hanger wires are wrappedaround

    20、carrying channels, the wire loops shall be tightlyformed to prevent any vertical movement or rotation of themember within the loop.2.3 Main Runners:2.3.1 Install main runners so that they are all level to within14 in. in 10 ft 6 mm in 3000 mm. Determine evaluation oflevelness from measurements taken

    21、 below hanger points.     22、ubsequent downward movement of the main runnerswhen the ceiling loads are imposed.2.3.3 Local kinks or bends shall not be made in hanger wiresas a means of leveling main runners.2.3.4 In installations where hanger wires are wrappedthrough or around main runners, the wire loops shall be tightlywrappe

    23、d and sharply bent to prevent any vertical movement orrotation of the member within the loops. The wire must bewrapped around itself a minimum of three full turns (360each) within a 3-in 75 mm. length. See Fig. 2 for an example.2.3.5 When installing fire resistive main runners, all fireexpansion rel

    24、ief cut outs in the main runner shall be installedwithin three inches of a vertical support hangar wire. Verticalsupport hangar wire spaced greater than three inches from fireexpansion relief cutouts is only permitted when the loadperformance has been evaluated at the greater distance.2.4 Cross Runn

    25、ers:2.4.1 Install cross runners supported by either main runnersor by other cross runners to within132 in. 0.80 mm of therequired center distances. This tolerance shall be noncumula-tive beyond 12 ft 3600 mm.2.4.2 Intersecting runners shall form a right angle.2.4.3 The exposed surfaces of two inters

    26、ecting runners shalllie within a vertical distance of 0.015 in. 0.40 mm of eachother with the abutting (cross) member always above thecontinuous (main) member.2.5 SplinesSplines used to form a concealed mechanicaljoint seal between adjacent tiles shall be compatible with thetile kerf design so that

    27、the adjacent tile will be horizontal wheninstalled. Where splines are longer than the dimension betweenedges of supporting members running perpendicular to thesplines, place the splines so that they rest either all above or allbelow the main running members.2.6 Assembly Devices:2.6.1 Join abutting s

    28、ections of main runner by means ofsuitable connections such as splices, interlocking ends, tablocks, pin locks, and so forth. A joint connection shall bejudged suitable both before and after ceiling loads are imposedif the joint provides sufficient alignment so that the exposedsurfaces of two abutti

    29、ng main runners lie within a verticaldistance of 0.015 in. 0.40 mm of each other and within ahorizontal distance of 0.015 in. 0.40 mm of each other.2.6.2 There shall be no visually apparent angular displace-ment of the longitudinal axis of one runner with respect to theother.2.6.3 Assembly devices s

    30、hall provide sufficient spacingcontrol so that horizontal gaps between exposed surfaces ofeither abutting or intersecting members shall not exceed 0.020in. 0.50 mm.2.6.4 Spring wire clips used for supporting main runnersshall maintain tight contact between the main runners and thecarrying channels w

    31、hen the ceiling loads are imposed on therunners.2.7 Ceiling Fixtures:2.7.1 Mount fixtures installed in acoustical tile or lay-inpanel ceilings in a manner that will not compromise ceilingperformance.2.7.2 Fixtures shall not be supported from main runners orcross runners if the weight of the fixture

In such cases, the fixture load shall be supportedby supplemental hangers within 6 in. 150 mm of each corner,or the fixture shall be separately supported.2.7.

    33、3 Fixtures shall not be installed so that main runners orcross runners will be eccentrically loaded except where provi-sion is inherent in the system (or is separately provided for) toprevent undesirable section rotation or displacement, or both.In any case, runners supporting ceiling fixtures shall

    34、 not rotatemore than 2 after the fixture loads are imposed.2.7.4 Where fixture installation would produce rotation ofrunners in excess of 2, install fixtures with the use of suitableaccessory devices. These devices shall support the fixture insuch a manner that main runners and cross runners will be

    35、loaded symmetrically rather than eccentrically.3. Interference of Ceiling Related Components3.1 The specifier shall designate the type of suspensionsystem to be employed and shall communicate to all partiesconcerned the necessary details of the acoustical ceiling tosatisfactorily identify the number

    36、, size, spacing, location, andtypes of fixtures to be accommodated in or above the ceiling.3.2 Prior to the beginning of ceiling work at a constructionsite, the ceiling contractor and other contractors whose work isrelated to the ceiling installation shall designate all areas ofpotential interferenc

    37、e between ceiling components and compo-nents from other trades.3.3 All areas of interference that arise following the begin-ning of ceiling construction shall be reported by the contractorsinvolved to the general contractor or the specifier, or both, assoon as the interference is observed.4. Appeara

    38、nce4.1 Lighting:4.1.1 Where light from fixtures, cove lights, or high win-dows strikes the surface at a small angle, even slight uneven-ness of joints of acoustical tile may result in unsatisfactoryappearance. Under such conditions beveled tile should be usedin preference to square edge tile and ins

    39、talled with considerablecare.4.1.2 The unfavorable appearance sometimes produced byedge lighting of ceilings suggests the desirability of using flushor recessed mounted lighting fixtures wherever this problemmay be a critical one. Ceiling shadows cast by strong naturallight coming through high windo

    40、ws also suggests the desir-ability of using tinted glass, blinds, or draperies to soften ordiffuse the light entering such openings.5. Inspection5.1 The inspection of specific ceiling areas for acceptabilityshall be made with lighting conditions corresponding to that offinal building occupancy. If t

    41、emporary lighting must be used,care shall be taken to position lights such that temporaryconditions will approximate the final lighting condition.6.
