Scope1.1 This specification covers carbo
3、n steel bars and shapesproduced from standard rail steel. These bars are furnished inthe as-wrought condition intended for structural use, or bar andshape uses, where high tensile properties are applicable. Thesematerials are available in two strength levels as Grades 50 and60.1.2 The values stated

Terminology3.1 Definitions of Terms Specific to This Standard:3.1.1 Rail steel bars and bar size shapes are available in thefollowing sections and nominal sizes:3.1.1.1 Rounds, Squares, and Round Corner Squares insizes ranging from38 to 114 in. (9.5 to 32 mm).3.1.1.2
6、 Square and Round Edge Flats,58 to 5 in. (15.9 to127 mm), inclusive, in width and thickness from764 to 1 in.(2.8 to 25 mm), inclusive, within 6 lb/ft (8.8 kg/m) limit.3.1.1.3 Hexagons and Octagons, in sizes12 to 1 in. (12.7to 25 mm) in116-in. (1.6-mm) increments.3.1.1.4 Bar Size Shapes:(1) Equal and
7、 Unequal Angles,34 to 3 in. (19.0 to 76 mm)length of legs and thickness ranging from764 to38 in. Ordering Information4.1 Orders for material under this specification shouldinclude the following information:4.1.1 Quantity (weight or number of pieces),4.1.2 Name of material (rail steel carbon bars),4.1.3 Grade of steel (Grade 50
11、and Grade 60),4.1.4 Dimensions (diameter, thickness, width, etc. andlength),4.1.5 Cross section (rounds, square, hexagon, etc.) (3.1),4.1.6 ASTM designation and date of issue,4.1.7 Certification, if required (Section 11), and4.1.8 End use.NOTE 1A typical ordering description is as follows: 10 000 lb

14、equirements5.1 Material furnished under this specification shall con-form to the applicable requirements of the current edition ofSpecification A 29/A 29M, unless otherwise provided herein.6. Materials and Manufacture6.1 MaterialThe material shall be hot wrought fromstandard section “T” rails. No ot
15、her materials, such as thoseknown by the terms “rerolled,” “rail steel equivalent,” or “railsteel quality,” shall be substituted.6.2 Hot FormingThe material shall be produced by hotforming slit railroad rail parts to yield straight lengths in thesections and nominal sizes specified in 3.1.1.6.3 Cond
16、ition:6.3.1 The material shall be furnished hot wrought, aswrought.6.3.2 The material shall be furnished in cut lengths or rangesof random lengths, as specified by the purchaser.7. Chemical Composition7.1 The chemical composition of rails does not changeduring use in track, reheating, slitting or ro
17、lling; consequently,the composition of rail steel products will fall within the limitsspecified in Specification A1for standard section “T” rails ofopen-hearth, basic-oxygen, electric-furnace, and Bessemerprocess.7.2 Rail steel products are not supplied to definite compo-sition limits. By mutual agr
18、eement with the manufacturer,material may be supplied from rails with a desired range ofcarbon and manganese when such rails are available.8. Mechanical Properties8.1 RequirementsThe material as represented by the testspecimens shall conform to the tensile or hardness require-ments specified in Tabl
19、e 1.8.2 Test SpecimensTest specimens may be taken from afull section or a machined section.8.3 Number of TestsOne tension test or one hardness test,at the manufacturers option, shall be made from each lot. Alotshall consist of one section of the same size produced in onecontinuous shift (turn) of op
20、eration (normally an 8-h period).9. Dimensions and Permissible Variations9.1 DimensionsThe permissible variations in dimensionsshall be in accordance with the requirements specified inTables 2-7. Due to differences in mill facilities, tolerances ofspecial bar sections vary among the manufacturers an
21、d suchtolerances are subject to agreement between manufacturer andpurchaser.9.2 LengthThe permissible variations for length shall bein accordance with the requirements specified in Table 8.9.3 StraightnessVariations in straightness shall not ex-ceed14 in. (6.4 mm) in any 5 ft (1.52 m); or14 in. 3 nu
22、mberof feet of length divided by 5 (6.4 mm 3 number of metres oflength divided by 1.52).10. Workmanship, Finish, and Appearance10.1 DescalingThe bars shall be furnished “not des-caled.”11. Certification and Report of Testing11.1 Upon request of the purchaser in the contract or order,a manufacturers
