Scope*1.1 This specification2covers austeniti
3、c steel castings forvalves, flanges, fittings, and other pressure-containing parts(Note 1).NOTE 1Carbon steel castings for pressure-containing parts are cov-ered by Specification A 216/A 216M, low-alloy steel castings by Speci-fication A 217/A 217M, and duplex stainless steel castings by Specifica-t
4、ion A 995/A 995M.1.2 A number of grades of austenitic steel castings areincluded in this specification. Since these grades possessvarying degrees of suitability for service at high temperaturesor in corrosive environments, it is the responsibility of thepurchaser to determine which grade shall be fu
5、rnished. Selec-tion will depend on design and service conditions, mechanicalproperties, and high-temperature or corrosion-resistant charac-teristics, or both.1.2.1 Because of thermal instability, Grades CE20N, CF3A,CF3MA, and CF8A are not recommended for service attemperatures above 800F 425C.1.2.2
6、Because of embrittlement phases, Grade CD4MCu isnot recommended for service at temperatures above 600F316C.1.3 Supplementary requirements of an optional nature areprovided for use at the option of the purchaser. The Supple-mentary requirements shall apply only when specified indi-vidually by the pur
7、chaser in the purchase order or contract.1.4 This specification is expressed in both inch-pound unitsand in SI units; however, unless the purchase order or contractspecifies the applicable M specification designation (SI units),the inch-pound units shall apply. The values stated in eitherinch-pound
8、units or SI units are to be regarded separately asstandard. Within the text, the SI units are shown in brackets.The values stated in each system may not be exact equivalents;therefore, each system shall be used independently of the other.Combining values from the two systems may result in noncon-for

18、y supplementary requirementsthat are indicated in the purchase order. Failure to comply withthe general requirements of Specification A 985/A 985M con-stitutes nonconformance with this specification. In case ofconflict between the requirements of this specification andSpecification A 985/A 985M, Spe
19、cification A 985/A 985Mshall prevail.3.3 The post weld heat treatment requirements of Supple-mentary Requirement S11 may be specified when austeniticcastings other than HK, HT, or CT15C are to be subjected tosevere corrosive service.4. Ordering Information4.1 The inquiry and order should include or
20、indicate thefollowing:4.1.1 A description of the casting by pattern number ordrawing (dimensional tolerances shall be included on thecasting drawing),4.1.2 Grade of steel,4.1.3 Options in the specification, and4.1.4 Supplementary requirements desired, including thestandards of acceptance.5. Process5
21、.1 The steel shall be made by the electric furnace processwith or without separate refining such as argon-oxygen decar-burization (AOD).6. Heat Treatment6.1 All castings shall receive a heat treatment at the tem-perature specified in Table 1, followed by a quench in water orrapid cool by other means
22、 except as noted.NOTE 2Proper heat treatment of these alloys is usually necessary toenhance corrosion resistance and in some cases to meet mechanicalproperties. Minimum heat-treat temperatures are specified; however, it issometimes necessary to heat-treat at higher temperatures, hold for someminimum
23、 time at temperature, and then rapidly cool the castings in orderto enhance the corrosion resistance and meet mechanical properties.7. Chemical Composition7.1 The steel shall conform to the requirements as tochemical composition prescribed in Table 2.8. Tensile Properties8.1 Steel used for the casti
24、ngs shall conform to the require-ments as to tensile properties prescribed in Table 3.9. Quality9.1 The surface of the casting shall be examined visuallyand shall be free of adhering sand, scale, cracks, and hot tears.Other surface discontinuities shall meet the visual acceptancestandards specified
