、Designation: A 139/A 139M 04Standard Specification forElectric-Fusion (Arc)-Welded Steel Pipe (NPS 4 and Over)1This standard is issued under the fixed designation A 139/A 139M; the number immediately following the designation indicates the yearof original adoption or, in the case of revision, the ye
、ar of last revision. A number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval.A superscript epsilon (e) indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval. This standard has been approved for use by agencies of the Department of Defense.1. Scope*1.1 This specification covers fiv
、e grades of electric-fusion(arc)-welded straight-seam or helical-seam steel pipe. Pipe ofNPS 4 (Note 1) and larger with nominal (average) wallthickness of 1.0 in. 25.4 mm and less are covered. Listing ofstandardized dimensions are for reference (Note 2). The gradesof steel are pipe mill grades havin
、g mechanical propertieswhich differ from standard plate grades. The pipe is intendedfor conveying liquid, gas, or vapor.NOTE 1The dimensionless designator NPS (nominal pipe size) hasbeen substituted in this standard for such traditional terms as “nominaldiameter,”“ size,” and “nominal size.”NOTE 2A
、comprehensive listing of standardized pipe dimensions iscontained in ASME B36.10M2.NOTE 3The suitability of pipe for various purposes is somewhatdependent on its dimensions, properties, and conditions of service. Forexample, for high-temperature service see applicable codes and Specifi-cation A 691.
、1.2 The values stated in either inch-pound units or in SIunits are to be regarded separately as standard. Within the text, the SI units are shown in brackets. The values in each systemare not exact equivalents; therefore, each system is to be usedindependently of the other.2. Referenced Documents2.1
