3、e purposes of this standard are to draw attention to the importance ofcorrosion as a major factor in the degradation of performance of electronicitems; to establish minimum requirements for the control of corrosion anddeterioration in DoD systems and applications; and to provide a guide to theselect
4、ion of protective measures. The choice of materials and processes forelectronic applications is, naturally, based on electrical properties not includedin this document. It is the aim of this standard to aid in selecting from amongsuitable materials and processes, those which will withstand the attac
5、k ofadverse environments during storage, shipment and service.4. This standard supplements the more general requirements of MIL-STD-454,titled “Standard General Requirements for Electronic Equipment,“ with detailedinformation on the maintenance of desired characteristics during and afterexposure to
6、anticipated environments. The circuitry or design is not pertinentto this standard except insofar as design affects susceptibility to corrosion.5. Contractors (and subcontractors) are encouraged to present new designs,materials, and technology which will improve the items or products, but shouldobta
7、in procuring activity approval prior to such use.6. This standard establishes minimum requirements for procedures, materialsand systems for protecting electronic co
21、mponents in DoD systems and assemblies fromadverse environments. Protective measures shall be sufficient to maintain performancecharacteristics within specified limits both during and after exposure to moisture, high andlow temperatures, corrosive gases, chemicals and microbial (fungal) attack. This
22、 standarddoes not deal with protection against damage from stress, shock, vibration or nuclear,biological and chemical (NBC) contamination. It is not concerned with electrical ormechanical design except insofar as design details affect susceptibility to corrosion.Provisions for prevention of deterio
23、ration shall apply to housings, chassis, hardware andsimilar parts which are assembled into electronic equipment, as well as to electronic andelectro-mechanical components. Unless specifically mentioned in the item specification ordrawing, this standard does not apply to standard commercial equipmen
24、t.1.2 Application. Unless otherwise specified, the responsibility for selecting anyprocedure, material or system shall rest with the activity procuring the end item. Wherepossible, protective measures shall be chosen from those specified herein. This does notpreclude the use of proven commercial mat
